Lessons Learned From a Delayed‐Start Trial of Modafinil for Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Freezing of gait (FOG) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) is debilitating and has limited treatments. Modafinil modulates beta/gamma band activity in the pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN), like PPN deep brain stimulation. We therefore tested the hypothesis that Modafinil would improve FOG in PwPD.

The Ecology of Individual Differences Empirically Applied to Space-Use and Movement Tactics

American Naturalist, 2020
Movement provides a link between individual behavioral ecology and the spatial and temporal variation in an individual’s landscape. Individual variation in movement traits is an important axis of animal personality, particularly in the context of ...

The Space Around Us

Science, 1997
What kind of maps do we keep inside our minds to chart the space around our bodies? In one area of the brain, some evidence suggests that neurons code for pieces of our environment that are not identified by their absolute position in space, but rather by their position in relation to the body.

Habitat fragmentation affects movement and space use of a specialist folivore, the koala

Animal Conservation, 2020

Space use by animals on the urban fringe: interactive effects of sex and personality

, 2020
Personality traits shape individual perceptions of risks and rewards, and so, should affect how animals value and use their environment. Evidence is emerging that personality affects foraging, space use, and exploitation of novel environments such as ...

Regulations fail to constrain dog space use in threatened species beach habitats

Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, 2020
The management of domestic dogs (Canis familiaris) in natural areas is controversial and more effective policy and management is required. We examine the occurrence and space use by dogs on southern Australian sandy beaches in different dog-leashing ...
