Photon Propelled Space Vehicles

Proceedings of the IRE, 1960
The interplanetary trajectories of vehicles propelled by solar radiation pressure are analyzed, and are shown to be logarithmic spirals if thrust direction is constant with respect to the vehicle-sun line. The required thrust may be obtained with a solar sail. Sail size as a function of trip time to Mars is determined for solar thrust, oriented tangent

Other Space Vehicles

2020
As stated, LEO space vehicles are more representative of the immediate growth in the development and deployment of space systems. Their comparative simplicity also allows for easier analogy and framing for cyber discussions around space systems in general. There are, however, many other types of space vehicles in and beyond Earth’s orbit. These systems

Lubrication in space vehicles

Wear, 1962
Abstract Operation of mechanical devices beyond the earth's atmosphere presents a number of peculiar problems to the lubrication engineer. The environment includes meteroids, weightlessness, various forms of radiant energy, temperature extremes, and ultrahigh vacuum. From a practical viewpoint, the high vacuum provides the most interesting challenges

RADIATION DOSIMETRY ABOARD MANNED SPACE VEHICLES

4th Manned Space Flight Meeting, 1965
Measurements necessary to characterize radiation exposure in space besides total dose are dose rate, distribution of dose in tissue, and local density of energy deposition, the latter generally characterized by the quality linear energy transfer (LET).

India’s space launch vehicles

Journal of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing, 1995
The current state of development of the Indian launch vehicles and major subsystems is reviewed. A conceptual design is sketched of the next generation Indian launch vehicle, which may be a two-stage-to-orbit vehicle with the envisaged payload capability and progressively greater reusability.
