A Space Adaptive Quantizer for Spaceborne SAR

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2011
A space adaptive flexible block quantizer (SA-FBQ), suited for spaceborne synthetic aperture radar missions, is presented. This quantizer is actually an extension of the flexible dynamic block adaptive quantizer (FDBAQ), proposed in , which, in turn, is an extension of the block adaptive quantizer (BAQ).

Range migration correction of spaceborne SAR

IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing, 1993
The range migration problem, a key problem in SAR (synthetic aperture radar) signal processing, is addressed. The long distance from the sensor to the target makes the problem so serious that one cannot get a fine image without correction. The authors have studied the generation of the range migration and have derived a new method to correct it ...

On the use of Time-Domain SAR Focusing in Spaceborne SAR Missions

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
This paper discusses the relevance and use of efficient focusing in the time domain in spaceborne SAR. With the increasing number of space-variant corrections required by higher resolution and wide swath observations, the efficiency of SAR focusing algorithms in the Fourier domain drops significantly.

The contribution of spaceborne SAR interferometry to geomorphological analyses

IGARSS 2003. 2003 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37477), 2004
Interferometric SAR data are used to derive morphometric terrain attributes required by geomorphological and hydrogeological applications. Instead of generating an interferometric Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and subsequently derive the terrain attributes, we compute these quantities directly from the interferogram.

Spaceborne P-band SAR for BIOMASS mission

2010 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2010
In the frame of the BIOMASS mission promoted by ESA for evaluating and monitoring Earth biomass, the expected performance of a P-band SAR instrument based on very large Direct Radiating Array antenna is addressed, as well as its architecture and the accommodation challenge on a platform.

Advanced spaceborne SAR systems with planar antenna

2017 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarConf), 2017
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) remote sensing allows high-resolution imaging independent of weather conditions and sunlight illumination and is therefore very attractive for the systematic observation of dynamic processes on the Earth's surface. Conventional spaceborne SAR systems are, however, limited in that a wide swath can only be imaged at the ...

Effects of PRF variation on spaceborne SAR imaging

2013 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium - IGARSS, 2013
High resolution and wide swath have always been critical criteria for SAR systems and consistently pursued. This paper investigates the utilization of pulse repetition frequency (PRF) variation in two situations: very high resolution and ultra-wide swath. It is demonstrated that by adopting varied PRF, in the former case, which corresponds to Spotlight

Spaceborne sar imaging of coastal ocean phenomena

2010 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2010
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) observes the large-scale ocean surface wind field. With SAR instruments, we can actively monitor phenomena in the coastal ocean and marine atmospheric boundary layer at very high spatial resolution (on the order of tens of meters) in all weather conditions day and night. SAR observations are particularly useful in coastal

A novel operation mode for spaceborne polarimetric SAR

Science China Information Sciences, 2011
A novel operation mode for spaceborne polarimetric SAR, named polarization space-division adding polarization code-division (PSD-PCD) operation mode, is proposed in this paper through combining polarimetric SAR with elevation digital beam-forming (DBF) on receive.

Multi-baseline imaging: A vision for spaceborne SAR

2015 16th International Radar Symposium (IRS), 2015
This paper provides a vision for the future development of spaceborne SAR systems with multi-baseline imaging capability like polarimetric SAR interferometry (PolinSAR), tomography (TomoSAR) and holography (HoloSAR). The goal is to fill the multi-dimensional data space with additional information from acquisitions having different spatial or temporal ...
