Aggregation and the Structure of Value
ABSTRACT Roughly, the view I call “Additivism” sums up value across time and people. Given some standard assumptions, I show that Additivism follows from two principles. The first says that how lives align in time cannot, in itself, matter. The second says, roughly, that a world cannot be better unless it is better within some period or another.

Spacetime representation of topological phononics
Non-conventional topology of elastic waves arises from breaking symmetry of phononic structures either intrinsically through internal resonances or extrinsically via application of external stimuli.

Spacetime from unentanglement [PDF]
Author(s): Nomura, Y; Rath, P; Salzetta, N | Abstract: © 2018 authors. Published by the American Physical Society. The past decade has seen a tremendous effort toward unraveling the relationship between entanglement and emergent spacetime.

Anselm's Temporal‐Ontological Proof
ABSTRACT In his Reply to Gaunilo, Anselm presented two additional arguments for the existence of God beyond those that appear in the Proslogion. In “The Logical Structure of Anselm's Argument,” Robert M. Adams isolates each. One, he develops into a modal ontological argument along the lines of other 20th century ontological arguments (e.g., those of ...

Drawing on sixteen months of ethnographic fieldwork in Oran, Algeria’s second- largest city, I argue that some cemeteries serve as semiotic landscapes of ambivalence— places that people cannot or refuse to classify within a culturally recognized ...

The quantum structure of spacetime at the Planck scale and quantum fields [PDF]
We propose uncertainty relations for the different coordinates of spacetime events, motivated by Heisenberg's principle and by Einstein's theory of classical gravity.

ABSTRACT In several articles, McCall and Lowe have claimed that endurantism and perdurantism are “equivalent.” From this, they conclude that there is no fact of the matter as to whether we live in an endurantist world or in a perdurantist world. In this paper, I use the notion of Morita equivalence to show in which precise sense, McCall and Lowe's ...

The question of existence of general, asymptotically flat radiative spacetimes and examples of explicit classes of radiative solutions of Einstein's field equations are discussed in the light of some new developments. The examples are cylindrical waves, Robinson-Trautman and type N spacetimes and especially boost-rotation symmetric spacetimes ...

On spacetime entanglement [PDF]
We examine the idea that in quantum gravity, the entanglement entropy of a general region should be finite and the leading contribution is given by the Bekenstein-Hawking area law. Using holographic entanglement entropy calculations, we show that this idea is realized in the Randall-Sundrum II braneworld for sufficiently large regions in smoothly ...
