Time-Varying Meshing Stiffness Calculation and Dynamics Simulation of Multi-Spalling Gear

open access: yesMachines
Spalling alters a gear’s time-varying meshing stiffness (TVMS), thereby affecting its vibration characteristics. However, most studies focus on single-spalling gears and overlook the possibility of multi-spalling gears.

Effect of water vapor on the spallation of thermal barrier coating systems during laboratory cyclic oxidation testing. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The effect of water and water vapor on the lifetime of Ni-based superalloy samples coated with a typical thermal barrier coating system—b-(Ni,Pt)Al bond coat and yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) top coat deposited by electron beam physical vapor ...

Two-Step Approach Using Degradable Magnesium to Inhibit Surface Biofilm and Subsequently Kill Planktonic Bacteria

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2021
Bacterial infection remains a great risk in medical implantation surgery. In this paper, we found that degradable metals may be a feasible alternative option of antibacterial implantation materials.

Site‐Specific Hydroxide Formation and Corrosion on Mg Nanocrystals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using single‐crystalline Mg nanocrystals, this study uncovers the intrinsic corrosion initiation mechanism. The stability of the protective Mg(OH)2 film depends on its interfacial coherence with the Mg substrate. Corrosion initiates at exposed corners, where film coverage is incomplete.

Substrate Effect on the High Temperature Oxidation Behavior of a Pt-modified Aluminide Coating. Part II: Long-term Cyclic-oxidation Tests at 1,050 C [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This second part of a two-part study is devoted to the effect of the substrate on the long-term, cyclic-oxidation behavior at 1,050 C of RT22 industrial coating deposited on three Ni-base superalloys (CMSX-4, SCB, and IN792).

Self‐Powered Bearing Sensing and Real‐Time Fault Diagnosis Enabled by Non‐Invasive Triboelectric Sensors and Edge AI Acceleration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study achieves the synergistic integration of self‐powered sensing and edge AI acceleration to establish a real‐time fault diagnosis system. The proposed TENG‐based self‐powered bearing sensor (NSE‐TBS) and FPGA‐accelerated edge AI framework fundamentally break through the inherent limitations of conventional monitoring systems, including complex ...

Computational model of spalling and effective fibers on toughening in fiber reinforced composites at an early stage of crack formation

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
This work suggests a computational model that takes account of effective fibers on toughening in FRC at an early stage of crack formation. We derived the distribution of pressure provoked by a random inclined fiber in the matrix and calculated stresses ...
