Multi-Span Composite Timber Beams with Rational Steel Reinforcements

open access: yesBuildings, 2021
Wooden multi-span beams with steel reinforcement were studied experimentally on a stationary stand using an eight-point loading scheme that simulated a load uniformly distributed over the beam span.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Influence Analysis of Lateral Connection between Track Beams of Suspended Monorail Transit Large-Span Bridges

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
[Objective] Generally, the left and right track beams of suspended rail transit work independently, and are only connected at the piers. The track beams in mid-span are not connected to each other, which has little effect on small-span track beams ...

Influence of impact velocity on dynamic performance of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with CFRP

open access: yesShenzhen Daxue xuebao. Ligong ban, 2022
In order to study the impact resistance and dynamic damage rule of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) under different impact velocities, four CFRP strengthened RC beams were tested by using a drop ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Structural performance of composite beams: effects of continuity and slenderness ratio

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Applied Science
An experimental study was conducted to investigate the performance of both simply supported and continuous steel beams acting compositely with reinforced concrete slabs using profiled steel sheeting and shear connectors.

Reinforced ultra-high performance concrete beam under flexure and shear: Experiment and theoretical model

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
This paper investigated the influence of different shear span ratios, longitudinal (LR) and stirrup (SR) reinforcement ratios, and material types on the flexural and shear performance of reinforced ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) beams.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the
