Aerodynamic challenges in span length of suspension bridges

Frontiers of Architecture and Civil Engineering in China, 2007
The potential requirement of extreme bridge spans is firstly discussed according to horizontal clearances for navigation and economical construction of deep-water foundation. To ensure the technological feasibility of suspension bridges with longer spans, the static estimation of feasible span length is then made based on current material strength and ...

Spanning lengths of percolation clusters

Journal of Statistical Physics, 1978
The spanning length of a percolation cluster is defined as the difference between the maximum and minimum coordinates of the cluster with respect to some chosen direction. It is statistically related to the number size of the cluster by an exponent that differs from the iriverse dimension that would characterize a compact cluster.

On the Difference of Expected Lengths of Minimum Spanning Trees

Combinatorics, Probability and Computing, 2009
An exact formula for the expected length of the minimum spanning tree of a connected graph, with independent and identical edge distribution, is given, which generalizes Steele's formula in the uniform case. For a complete graph, the difference of expected lengths between exponential distribution, with rate one, and uniform distribution on the interval

Holding Length: Effect on Digital Fibrograph Span Length

Textile Research Journal, 1990
Fibers scanned for length by most instruments must be held in position for the scan. The holding length has been determined mathematically as being of the order of 4.06 mm ( 0.16 in.). Since the start of scan begins at 3.81 mm (0.15 in.) from the holding edge, the average start of scan actually begins at a length of 7.87 mm (0.31 in.).

Overstrength of RC Medium Length Span Bridges

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2022
Overstrength factors in bridges reported in various studies show great diversity that depends on the type of bridges selected and the set of seismic records used in the analyses. Particularly in Mexico, there are no previous studies that evaluate the bridges’ overstrength.

Random Minimum Length Spanning Trees in Regular Graphs

COMBINATORICA, 1998
For random graphs with edge lengths that are independently and uniformly distributed on the unit interval, the expected minimum length of a spanning forest is investigated. In particular, the expected minimum length of a spanning tree is given asymptotically for regular connected graphs.
