Modulation of miR‐23b Wnt/β‐catenin Axis Strengthens Endothelial Barrier Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Early blood‐brain barrier (BBB) disruption contributes to stroke and CNS disease pathology. miR‐23b was identified as a regulator of BBB integrity in brain endothelial cells. Inhibition of miR‐23b enhanced barrier‐associated properties, promoted repair‐related signaling, and reduced BBB leakage in experimental stroke models, supporting further ...

A large-scale retrospective study of opioid poisoning in New York State with implications for targeted interventions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Opioid overdose related deaths have increased dramatically in recent years. Combating the opioid epidemic requires better understanding of the epidemiology of opioid poisoning (OP).

Condition‐Associated Pattern Extraction and Recovery From Multi‐Condition Single‐Cell RNA‐seq Data With CAPER

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Decoupling biological signals from unwanted variation in multi‑condition single‑cell RNA sequencing data remains challenging. CAPER disentangles condition‑associated biological effects from sample heterogeneity through matrix factorization, producing interpretable latent factors and a batch‑corrected expression matrix.

SPARC Drives Podocyte Mitochondrial Damage and Ferroptosis in Diabetic Kidney Disease Following Klotho Deficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Klotho deficiency promotes podocyte mitochondrial dysfunction and ferroptosis through activation of the PKCα/CUX1/SPARC/TGFβ‐RII axis. SPARC emerges as a key mediator linking Klotho loss to podocyte injury in DKD and other kidney injury models, suggesting broader implications for CKD progression.

The Star-Planet Activity Research CubeSat (SPARCS): Determining Inputs to Planetary Habitability

open access: yes, 2022
Seventy-five billion low-mass stars in our galaxy host at least one small planet in their habitable zone (HZ). The stellar ultraviolet (UV) radiation received by the planets is strong and highly variable, and has consequences for atmospheric loss ...

Evaluating Approximations of River Channel Shape Using a National Cross‐Section Database

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Many hydrologic applications require basic information on the size and shape of river channels, but measuring cross section (XS) geometry in the field or via remote sensing can be costly and often provides only partial coverage.

Impact of Iron Deficiency Anemia on Postoperative Outcomes of Thoracolumbar Spinal Fusion (2+ levels) on Patients with Adult Spinal Deformity with Minimum 2-Year Follow-Up

open access: yesSpine Surgery and Related Research
Introduction: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a common hematological disorder and cause of low hemoglobin. Preoperative anemia has been demonstrated to increase the risk of adverse outcomes after posterior cervical fusion and other spinal surgeries.

Glucocorticoid Receptor Signaling in Myeloid Cells Orchestrates Inflammation Resolution and Muscle Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glucocorticoids (GC) are widely used to reduce inflammation. We show that the glucocorticoid receptor in myeloid cells regulates macrophage cell cycle and genome integrity during muscle regeneration. We demonstrate that dexamethasone administration during the early inflammatory phase delays muscle repair by increasing macrophage proliferation ...
