Synthesis of sparse planar arrays
A synthesis method is proposed that is aimed at designing a planar, sparse, and aperiodic array to be used in a beamforming processor. This method minimises the number of elements able to generate a beam pattern that fulfils various a priori fixed constraints. The obtained results are better than those proposed in related literature.

L-Shaped Sparse Array Structure for 2-D DOA Estimation
In order to improve the performance of two-dimensional (2-D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation, an L-shaped sparse array structured by two new sparse linear arrays is proposed. Each part of the proposed L-shaped array is used for one-dimensional (1-D)

Current Status and New Challenges of The Tunka Radio Extension [PDF]
The Tunka Radio Extension (Tunka-Rex) is an antenna array spread over an area of about 1~km$^2$. The array is placed at the Tunka Advanced Instrument for cosmic rays and Gamma Astronomy (TAIGA) and detects the radio emission of air showers in the band of

Detecting novel genes with sparse arrays [PDF]
Species-specific genes play an important role in defining the phenotype of an organism. However, current gene prediction methods can only efficiently find genes that share features such as sequence similarity or general sequence characteristics with previously known genes.

Lensless wide-field fluorescent imaging on a chip using compressive decoding of sparse objects. [PDF]
We demonstrate the use of a compressive sampling algorithm for on-chip fluorescent imaging of sparse objects over an ultra-large field-of-view (>8 cm(2)) without the need for any lenses or mechanical scanning.

3D Coprime Arrays in Sparse Sensing [PDF]
Coprime arrays are a class of sensor arrays that play a crucial role in various signal processing tasks because of their desirable properties such as sparsity and increased degrees of freedom (DOF) of coarrays. In this contribution, a new class of three-dimensional (3D) arrays is constructed from pure cubic fields.

Optimization of Sparse Cross Array Synthesis via Perturbed Convex Optimization
Three-dimensional (3-D) imaging sonar systems require large planar arrays, which incur hardware costs. In contrast, a cross array consisting of two perpendicular linear arrays can also support 3-D imaging while dramatically reducing the number of sensors.

Nonparametric empirical Bayes and compound decision approaches to estimation of a high-dimensional vector of normal means [PDF]
We consider the classical problem of estimating a vector $\bolds{\mu}=(\mu_1,...,\mu_n)$ based on independent observations $Y_i\sim N(\mu_i,1)$, $i=1,...,n$. Suppose $\mu_i$, $i=1,...,n$ are independent realizations from a completely unknown $G$.

HAWC High Energy Upgrade with a Sparse Array [PDF]
The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) gamma-ray observatory has been fully operational since March 2015. To improve its sensitivity at the highest energies, it is being upgraded with an additional sparse array called outrigger array.
