Random Noise Suppression of Magnetic Resonance Sounding Data with Intensive Sampling Sparse Reconstruction and Kernel Regression Estimation

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
The magnetic resonance sounding (MRS) method is a non-invasive, efficient and advanced geophysical method for groundwater detection. However, the MRS signal received by the coil sensor is extremely susceptible to electromagnetic noise interference.

MCMC for Variationally Sparse Gaussian Processes

open access: yes, 2015
Gaussian process (GP) models form a core part of probabilistic machine learning. Considerable research effort has been made into attacking three issues with GP models: how to compute efficiently when the number of data is large; how to approximate the posterior when the likelihood is not Gaussian and how to estimate covariance function parameter ...

Slip Localization Intensification Mediated by Grain Boundary Sliding in a Polycrystalline Nickel‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The temperature dependence of fatigue behavior in nickel‐based superalloys is investigated through high‐resolution measurements of plastic localization. While increasing temperature reduces localization and enhances fatigue performance in René 88DT, Inconel 718 exhibits a sharp degradation at intermediate temperature due to intensified slip ...

Parallel sparse matrix solution for direct circuit simulation on a multiple FPGA system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
SPICE, from the University of California, at Berkeley, is the de facto world standard for circuit simulation. SPICE is used to model the behaviour of electronic circuits prior to manufacturing to decrease defects and hence reduce costs. However, accurate

An orthogonal forward regression technique for sparse kernel density estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Using the classical Parzen window (PW) estimate as the desired response, the kernel density estimation is formulated as a regression problem and the orthogonal forward regression technique is adopted to construct sparse kernel density (SKD) estimates ...

Encyclopedia of 2D β′‐In2Se3 Growth Using Chemical Vapor Deposition: The Effects of Synthesis Parameters Onto Material Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A distinct semi‐confined inner‐tube chemical vapor deposition geometry enables reproducible, large‐area growth of phase‐pure 2D β′‐In2Se3 from InI + Se precursors. Engineering local vapor transport and optimizing precursor delivery and temperature–time conditions yield uniform continuous films.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Efficient processing of side-scan sonar images and fast detection of sparse targets in large-scale images

open access: yesInternational Journal of Digital Earth
Poor feature representation, confusing background topography, and excessive data volume render detecting sparse targets in large-size acoustic imagery challenging.
