A schematic illustration of how noble metals can be used to create nanoparticles (NPs) or nanoclusters (NCs). Noble metal NPs, due to their plasmonic properties, enable photothermal therapy and surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). In contrast, NCs, which lack a plasmonic resonance band, exhibit fluorescence, making them ideal for bioimaging ...

The protocataclasite dilemma: in situ 36Cl and REE-Y lessons from an impure limestone fault scarp at Sparta, Greece [PDF]
Reconstructions of palaeoseismicity are useful for understanding and mitigating seismic hazard risks. We apply cosmogenic 36Cl exposure-age dating and measurements of rare-earth elements and yttrium (REE-Y) concentrations to the palaeoseismic history of ...

Arthroscopic Resection of Nonunion Inferior Pole Patella Fracture
Abstract Inferior pole fractures of the patella often result from trauma and often affect young, active patients. Most fractures show excellent healing, but nonunion can occur due to tensile forces. Symptomatic nonunion can be treated with open reduction and internal fixation for larger fractures or resection for small fragments.

What Was Homer Honing in the Odyssey?
Abstract We summarize the data provided in Homer's the Odyssey concerning Odysseus' journey and suggest a completely new view of what was Homer trying to convey to us. We suggest that Homer was honing the idea of synergy between rules (determinism) and chance (randomness), an idea deeply rooted in natural processes as well in mathematics.
