Annals of the Association of American Geographers, 1974
ABSTRACT The current U.S. emphasis on geography as spatial organization has evolved over the last fifty years from an early emphasis on man-land relations followed by an emphasis on areal differentiation. The spatial view has shown both strengths and weaknesses during the sixties.

Inferring and Distributing Spatial Context
2007An increasing number of computationally enhanced objects is distributed around us in physical space, which are equipped - or at least can be provided -- with sensors for measuring spatial contexts like position, direction and acceleration. We consider spatial relationships between them, which can basically be acquired by a pairwise comparison of their ...

Externalities in a spatial context
Journal of Public Economics, 1977Abstract In this paper air pollution externalities are analyzed in an explicit spatial setting that recognizes the spatial interdependence of polluters and their victims. Optimal environmental policies are shown to consist not only of Pigouvian taxes but of two other policies.

Image Classification With Kernelized Spatial-Context
IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, 2010The goal of image classification is to classify a collection of unlabeled images into a set of semantic classes. Many methods have been proposed to approach this goal by leveraging visual appearances of local patches in images. However, the spatial context between these local patches also provides significant information to improve the classification ...

The role of spatial context in activity recognition
Proceedings of the Eighth Indian Conference on Computer Vision, Graphics and Image Processing, 2012In this paper, we propose a mathematical framework to model activities with both motion and context information for activity recognition. This is motivated from the observations that an activity does not only depend on the motion of the objects of interest but the surrounding objects also provide useful cues for an understanding of the activity.

Temporal context as cortical spatial codes
2009 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks, 2009It is largely unknown how the brain deals with time. The new field of research on autonomous development must enable machines to develop intelligent behaviors that respond not only to spatial features, but also temporal features. Hidden Markov Model (HMM) has a probability based mechanism to deal with time warping, but no effective online method exists

Spatial context in collaborative information seeking
Journal of Information Science, 2012Space and time are considered the most important dimensions for studying systems and methods that support collaboration in information seeking. Several investigations have provided us with insights into people’s preferences and experiences relating to these two dimensions, but there is a lack of empirical evidence.

A Hierarchy of Spatial Context for Urban Computing
2012Context which consists of user experience can be described by hierarchy of time context, spatial context, social context and global context, local context, personal context. We Proposed context hierarchy for content strategy. Proposed context hierarchy takes time and spatial index and relations makes formal representation.

The Dual is the Context: Spatial Structures for GIS
2010 International Symposium on Voronoi Diagrams in Science and Engineering, 2010GIS (Geographic Information Systems) are concerned with the manipulation and analysis of spatial data at a “Geographic” scale. Apart from issues of storage, database query and visualization, they must deal with several significantly different types of spatial information.

Spatial context in an image analysis system
1990“Scene Analysis”, especially for real data, is a complex problem. There are two main explanations which interest us in this paper.
