Knowledge Discovery in Spatial Databases [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Both, the number and the size of spatial databases, such as geographic or medical databases, are rapidly growing because of the large amount of data obtained from satellite images, computer tomography or other scientific equipment. Knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) is the process of discovering valid, novel and potentially useful patterns from ...

Pharmacological effects of osimertinib on a chicken chorioallantoic membrane xenograft model with the EGFR exon‐19‐deleted advanced NSCLC mutation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 15, Issue 5, Page 836-855, May 2025.
Osimertinib reduces angiogenesis and PDL1 expression in in ovo tumors, transforming them into ‘cold tumors’ with lower immune activity. Anatomopathological and transcriptomic analyses highlight its therapeutic impact on tumor biology. This study underscores osimertinib's potential to reshape the tumor microenvironment and provides insights into its ...

Intelligent extraction of road cracks based on vehicle laser point cloud and panoramic sequence images

open access: yesJournal of Road Engineering
In light of the limited efficacy of conventional methods for identifying pavement cracks and the absence of comprehensive depth and location data in two-dimensional photographs, this study presents an intelligent strategy for extracting road cracks. This

Full Speed Ahead: 3D Spatial Database Acceleration with GPUs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Many industries rely on visual insights to support decision- making processes in their businesses. In mining, the analysis of drills and geological shapes, represented as 3D geometries, is an important tool to assist geologists on the search for new ore deposits.

The last Eurasian ice sheets – a chronological database and time‐slice reconstruction, DATED‐1

open access: yes, 2016
We present a new time‐slice reconstruction of the Eurasian ice sheets (British–Irish, Svalbard–Barents–Kara Seas and Scandinavian) documenting the spatial evolution of these interconnected ice sheets every 1000 years from 25 to 10 ka, and at four ...

Mapping Hsp104 interactions using cross‐linking mass spectrometry

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study examines how cross‐linking mass spectrometry can be utilized to analyze ATP‐induced conformational changes in Hsp104 and its interactions with substrates. We developed an analytical pipeline to distinguish between intra‐ and inter‐subunit contacts within the hexameric homo‐oligomer and discovered contacts between Hsp104 and a selected ...

Accelerating Pathology Image Data Cross-Comparison on CPU-GPU Hybrid Systems [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the VLDB Endowment (PVLDB), Vol. 5, No. 11, pp. 1543-1554 (2012), 2012
As an important application of spatial databases in pathology imaging analysis, cross-comparing the spatial boundaries of a huge amount of segmented micro-anatomic objects demands extremely data- and compute-intensive operations, requiring high throughput at an affordable cost.

A Survey on Clustering Algorithms for Data in Spatial Database Management Systems

open access: yes, 2011
Clustering is an essential task in data mining to group data into meaningful subsets to retrieve information from a given dataset of Spatial Data Base Management System (SDBMS). The information thus retrieved from the SDBMS helps to detect urban activity

Hydrophobicity causes anomalous migration of cystine/glutamate antiporter SLC7A11 in SDS‐PAGE with low acrylamide concentration

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
SLC7A11 frequently migrates faster in SDS‐PAGE. The present study found that the high hydrophobicity of SLC7A11 causes its anomalous migration in SDS‐PAGE with a low concentration of acrylamide gel. Replacing isoleucine with asparagine reduced hydrophobicity and restored its normal migration at 55 kDa, revealing the role of hydrophobicity and gel ...
