Strategies in Global Ancestry and Local Ancestry Inference

open access: yesCurrent Protocols, Volume 6, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Genetic ancestry inference has become essential in population and medical genetics, especially for studies of admixed populations. Accurate determination of both global ancestry (GA) proportions and local ancestry (LA) segmental origins requires careful selection of computational methods and reference panels.

A spatial Durbin model for interval-valued data with t -distribution

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Computation and Simulation
Interval-valued data have received much attention due to their wide applications in finance, econometrics, meteorology and medicine. However, most regression models developed for interval-valued data assume that the observations are mutually independent, which can not be adapted to scenarios where individuals are spatially correlated.

The Genetic and Morphological Basis of Local Adaptation to Elevational Extremes in an Alpine Finch

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We investigated morphological and genetic variation in the Sierra Nevada Gray‐crowned Rosy Finch to identify traits important for local adaptation in alpine environments. By combining trait measurements with genome‐wide analyses, we uncovered loci linked to thermoregulation, altitude adaptation, and cold tolerance.

Evolution and Climate Adaptation in Eurasian Gyrfalcon Populations

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This reports the influence of past, current and future Arctic climate change to the evolution of Eurasian gyrfalcons (Falco rusticolus), and reveals that its current evolutionary potential is insufficient to cope with the ongoing Arctic warming. ABSTRACT Climate change is considered a key driver for shaping ecological and evolutionary processes of ...

Patterns of Population Genomic Variation and Evolutionary History of European Hake in the Northeastern Atlantic

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We use for the first time whole‐genome sequencing to explore current and historical patterns of genetic diversity in European hake in the Northeastern Atlantic, focusing on the recently expanded distribution range in the North Sea. Genomic data revealed a complex scenario with three populations: North Sea, Celtic Sea and Portugal.

Discharge Modulates the Dominance of Downstream Carbon Export Over Evasion in a Boreal Headwater Stream

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Carbon dioxide (CO2) evasion and downstream export of carbon (C) from headwater streams represent important fluxes in the global C cycle. Yet, these fluxes are generally studied in isolation, leaving gaps in the understanding of the overall role of streams in the C cycle.
