From Phosphinimines to Four‐Membered SiCPN Cations: Insights Into N–Si Bonding and Ring Strain

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, EarlyView.
Sterically tuned N‐silyl phosphinimines enable four‐membered SiCPN cations. Hydride abstraction yields cyclic cations for Me and iPr substituents at silicon, while tBu gives a protonated intermediate. Multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, X‐ray crystallography, thermochemical density functional theory investigations, and natural bond orbital analyses reveal ...

Performance Assessment of the Immersed Boundary Method in the Framework of the Moment Representation Lattice Boltzmann Method

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, EarlyView.
The immersed boundary method (IBM) was coupled with the moment representation lattice Boltzmann method (MR‐LBM), reducing bandwidth requirements compared to population‐based LBM formulations. A systematic assessment of IBM parameters was conducted to quantify their effect on computational performance.

Spatiospectral concentration in the Cartesian plane

open access: yes, 2011
We pose and solve the analogue of Slepian's time-frequency concentration problem in the two-dimensional plane, for applications in the natural sciences.

Boundary Conditions for Kerr-AdS Perturbations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The Teukolsky master equation and its associated spin-weighted spheroidal harmonic decomposition simplify considerably the study of linear gravitational perturbations of the Kerr(-AdS) black hole.

Bio‐inspired nanophotonics: Structural color, chirality, and resonance metasurfaces

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
A butterfly‐wing‐inspired anisotropic plasmonic flatband resonant metasurface. Insets, photo of the butterfly, Sasakia charonda, and the SEM image of its wing scale (above); the SEM image of the metasurface (below). Abstract The dazzling colors of butterfly wings and hummingbird feathers are not painted with pigments, but crafted by nature's invisible ...

Extreme Mass-Ratio Inspirals in the Effective-One-Body Approach: Quasi-Circular, Equatorial Orbits around a Spinning Black Hole

open access: yes, 2010
We construct effective-one-body waveform models suitable for data analysis with LISA for extreme-mass ratio inspirals in quasi-circular, equatorial orbits about a spinning supermassive black hole.

Ba[C(CN)3]2 and Pb[C(CN)3]2: Two Remarkably Different Heavy Main‐Group Metal Bistricyanomethanides

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
Metathesis reactions of either barium dichloride, BaCl2, or lead dichloride, PbCl2, respectively, with Ag[C(CN)3] in water yielded single crystals of anhydrous Ba[C(CN)3]2 and Pb[C(CN)3]2. Ba[C(CN)3]2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n (no. 14) with the lattice parameters a = 437.98(3) pm, b = 1685.36(11) pm, c = 1398.87(9) pm, β = 96.541(

The Sun's Supergranulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Supergranulation is a fluid-dynamical phenomenon taking place in the solar photosphere, primarily detected in the form of a vigorous cellular flow pattern with a typical horizontal scale of approximately 30--35~megameters, a dynamical evolution time of ...

A Neutral Linear Cobalt(I) Silylamide as a Platform for Alkyne Cyclotrimerization and an Intermediate‐Spin Imido Cobalt Complex

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
A new ly synthesized is employed in cyclotrimerisation of diphenylacetylene and platform for an imido cobalt complex. The imidocomplex is found in an intermediate‐spin state w ith an ambiguous electronic situation. Additional computational analyses hint to ananionic charge of imido complexes as a benefactor for a high‐spin state.
