Spatial indexing in binary decomposition and spatial bounding

Information Systems, 1991
Abstract In spatial database systems, data objects are of non-zero size and are associated with space coordinates. Efficient query retrieval on spatial relationships relies upon auxiliary data structures to support spatial indexing of these objects.

Spatial Color Indexing and Applications

International Journal of Computer Vision, 1999
We define a new image feature called the color correlogram and use it for image indexing and comparison. This feature distills the spatial correlation of colors and when computed efficiently, turns out to be both effective and inexpensive for content-based image retrieval.

The price of generality in spatial indexing

Proceedings of the 2nd ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Analytics for Big Geospatial Data, 2013
Efficient indexing can significantly speed up the processing of large volumes of spatial data in many BigData applications. Many new emerging spatial applications (e.g., biomedical imaging, genome analysis, etc.) have varying indexing requirements, thus, a unified indexing infrastructure for implementing new indexing schemes without requiring knowledge

A spatial index for hybrid storage

Proceedings of the 23rd International Database Applications & Engineering Symposium on - IDEAS '19, 2019
The introduction of flash SSDs has accelerated the performance of DBMSes. However, the intrinsic characteristics of flash motivated many researchers to investigate new efficient data structures. The emergence of 3DXPoint, a new non-volatile memory, sets new challenges: 3DXPoint features low latency and high IOPS even at small queue depths. However, the

Spatial indexing on tetrahedral meshes

Proceedings of the 18th SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems, 2010
We address the problem of performing spatial queries on tetrahedral meshes. These latter arise in several application domains including 3D GIS, scientific visualization, finite element analysis. We have defined and implemented a family of spatial indexes, that we call tetrahedral trees.

Spatial indexing and analytics on Hadoop

Proceedings of the 22nd ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems, 2014
Effective processing of extremely large volumes of spatial data has led to many organizations employing distributed processing frameworks. Hadoop is one such open-source framework that is enjoying widespread adoption. In this paper, we detail an approach to indexing and performing key analytics on spatial data that is persisted in HDFS.

LibRTS: A Spatial Indexing Library by Ray Tracing

ACM SIGPLAN Symposium on Principles & Practice of Parallel Programming
The Ray-Tracing (RT) core has become a widely integrated feature in modern GPUs to accelerate ray-tracing rendering. Recent research has shown that RT cores can also be repurposed to accelerate non-rendering workloads.

MeTree: A Metric Spatial Index

2020
Metric Spaces model databases allowing similarity searching. e.g., looking for objects similar to a given one. Spatial databases are used to store and efficiently retrieve data with some spatial attribute. Some applications need to search both by similarity and space at the same time.

Spatial Indexing with a Scale Dimension

1999
It is frequently the case that spatial queries require a result set of objects whose scale - however this may be more precisely defined - is the same as that of the query window. In this paper we present an approach which considerably improves query performance in such cases.
