The Fast Bitplane SLM: A New Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal on Silicon Spatial Light Modulator.

Spatial Light Modulators, 1997
Since the evolution of the ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) on silicon spatial light modulator (SLM)1, there have been improvements in resolution, speed and optical quality2,3. The SLM we are presenting here contains improvements to all these factors as well as improvements on fill factor, liquid crystal dynamics and fabrication techniques.

Characterizing static aberration in reflective liquid crystal spatial light modulators (LC-SLM) using random phase shifting interferometry

2021 International Conference of Optical Imaging and Measurement (ICOIM), 2021
To accurate modulate the phase of the incoming light, the backplane aberration of a spatial light modulator (SLM) needs to be measured and compensated. In this paper, we develop an interferometric method to calibrate the static aberration. In our method, a Michelson interferometer was constructed and the SLM itself was used to produce the random phase ...

Optical surface quality of spatial light modulators (SLMs)

Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1992
The phase modulating properties of spatial light modulators have been investigated for optical pattern recognition purposes for many years. Researchers have attempted to exploit these properties for phase-only matched filtering and optical associative memories.

SLM-Microscopy: Wavefront Shaping for Microscopy with Spatial Light Modulators

Frontiers in Optics 2009/Laser Science XXV/Fall 2009 OSA Optics & Photonics Technical Digest, 2009
We present applications of spatial light modulators (SLMs) placed either in the imaging path or in the illumination path of a microscope allowing, for instance, the emulation of various phase contrast techniques.

GaAs‐pin/ferroelectric liquid crystal spatial light modulator (GaAs‐pin/FLC‐SLM) and its applications

Electronics and Communications in Japan (Part II: Electronics), 1994
AbstractA spatial light modulator GaAs‐pin/ferroelectric liquid crystal spatial light modulator (GaAs‐pin/FLC‐SLM) was developed in which a GaAs photodiode is used as a photodetector, and a ferroelectric liquid crystal is used as a modulator. In the present device, write‐in with visible light and a transmission‐type readout at infrared are possible ...

Quadruple-valued logic system using savart plate and spatial light modulator (SLM) and it’s applications

Journal of Computational Electronics, 2012
With the demanding scenario of communication and optical computing technology the trinary and quadruple valued logic systems are the most important ones in the many valued logic system. Different techniques are being proposed day-by-day to implement the multi-valued logics (MVL). In our previous papers we have proposed the modified trinary number (MTN)

Optical pattern recognition with LAPS-SLM (I): light-addressed photoconductor and smectic C* liquid-crystal spatial light modulator

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
Using a hydrogenated amorphous silicon as a photoconductor, the relatively new class of a light addressed photoconductor and SmC* liquid crystal spatial light modulator named LAPS-SLM is presented. The operation and characteristics of LAPS-SLM without using a dielectric mirror is reported.

High Contrast, 2D Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) Using InGaAs/AlGaAs Quantum Wells Operating at 980nm

Spatial Light Modulators, 1997
2D arrays of light modulators operating at 980 nm have been designed, fabricated and tested for use in photonic neural networks. The device would also be useful in other photonic systems employing intensity SLMs such as joint transform correlators or optical cross-bar switches.

Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs) Surface Quality

1993
Abstract : The phase modulating properties of spatial light modulators (SLMs) have been investigated for optical pattern recognition purposes for many years. An interferometric microscope was recently utilized to investigate the surface uniformity, and thus phase distortion, of several SLMs that are commercially available. These interferometric results
