We propose here a new and novel technique using the dual modulation modes of the spatial light modulator (SLM) in a single-beam set-up, thus enabling a more compact and more shock-proof holographic image storage and retrieval system when compared to a double-beam interference set-up system.

We present a method to generating threedimensional layered images using an iterative angular spectrum algorithm and interleaving DOEs displayed on a SLM. 3D layered images were projected in 12.5 to 15.5 cm from the SLM.

A phase compression technique is demonstrated that creates a peak to destructively interfere with the undesired zero-order diffracted beam in a hologram produced by a pixelated, phase-only SLM. Image precision and diffraction efficiency are simulated.
