Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2011
In this paper, a power and bandwidth efficient pulsed modulation technique for optical wireless (OW) communication is proposed. The scheme is called optical spatial modulation (OSM). In OSM, multiple transmit units exist where only one transmitter is active at any given time instance.

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2015
This paper proposes a new multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) technique called quadrature spatial modulation (QSM). QSM enhances the overall throughput of conventional SM systems by using an extra modulation spatial dimension. The current SM technique uses only the real part of the SM constellation, and the proposed method in this paper extends this ...

The success of liquid crystals in visual display devices has assured their commercial viability and made them common in our everyday use. However, their uses and applications go well beyond the displays used on handheld devices. Projection systems, similar to displays, also make use of liquid crystals, but in the form of spatial light modulators.

Magical Ideation Modulates Spatial Behavior
The Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, 2003Previous research has found that animals as well as persons with psychotic disorders preferentially orient away from the cerebral hemisphere with the more active dopamine system. This study investigated the modulation of spatial behavior by a mode of thinking reminiscent of the positive symptoms of psychosis.

Masking by spatially-modulated gratings
Vision Research, 1983Contrast- or quasi-frequency-modulated masker gratings consisting of three high frequency components (8.8, 11 and 13.2 c/deg) affect the detectability of a 2.2 c/deg signal grating, to an extent that is strongly dependent upon the relative phase between signal and masker. Unmodulated high frequency maskers have no such phase-dependent effects.

Nonbinary LDPC-Coded Spatial Modulation
IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2017This paper presents a nonbinary low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded spatial modulation (CSM) for multiple-input multiple-output communication systems, in which the information bits for choosing active transmit antennas and the bits for choosing constellation signals are protected by a nonbinary LDPC code.

Near real-time reusable spatial light modulators for coherent optical data processing are reviewed. The PROM, liquid crystal, and electron beam addressed DKDP and oil film light valves appear to be the most promising devices for coherent optical data processing.

Transillumination spatially modulated illumination microscopy
Optics Letters, 2005The diagnostic utility of a conventional transillumination microscope, the most common imaging modality in clinical use today, is limited by the microscope's resolution. It is, however, possible to achieve lateral resolution well beyond the classical limit by using laterally structured illumination in a wide-field, nonconfocal microscope.

Before proceeding to a discussion of particular SLMs, it is worth summarizing their salient parameters (Table 8.1), which were discussed in Sect.2.3. Note that in some specific applications the requirements on SLM parameters may lie beyond the ranges indicated here, because we give values for the sake of reference.
