Public transport accessibility to upper secondary schools measured by the potential quotient: The case of Kraków

open access: yesMoravian Geographical Reports, 2021
The spatial differences in public transport accessibility to upper secondary schools are examined in this article, using the potential accessibility model, and based on the example of the city of Kraków.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Uncovering Dynamics of Global Mangrove Gains and Losses

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
Supporting successful global mangrove conservation and policy requires accurate identification of anthropogenic and biophysical drivers of mangrove extent, yet such studies are scarce.

Spatial Organization of the Kasungu Elephant [PDF]

open access: yesBijdragen tot de Dierkunde, 1983
Using a recognition file that was compiled during the study, information on movements of individually known elephants was collected over two periods, one of three and one of eight months, in 1978 and 1981/82, respectively. There appeared to be a relationship between the number of animals in the family unit and the size of the home range/activity area ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Self-organization of spatial solitons

open access: yesOptics Express, 2005
We present experimental results on the transverse modulation instability of an elliptical beam propagating in a bulk nonlinear Kerr medium, and the formation and self-organization of spatial solitons. We have observed the emergence of order, self organization and a transition to an unstable state. Order emerges through the formation of spatial solitons

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Reconstruction of geodynamic processes on the Vistula riverbank in medieval Toruń (Poland)

open access: yesGeographia Polonica
During roadworks on Bulwar Filadelfijski in Toruń, the foundations of a Benedictine monastery and the Holy Spirit Church were uncovered. Geoarchaeological research analyzed fluvial, denudational, and anthropogenic layers in the Vistula riverbank. The aim

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Mapping and spatial distribution of relict charcoal hearths across Poland [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Science Data
This study presents the first national-scale spatial inventory of relict charcoal hearths (RCHs) in Poland, based on high-resolution LiDAR data and digital terrain analysis.
