Separable spatial modeling of spillovers and disturbances
Journal of Geographical Systems, 2011The single spatial parameter in the spatial autoregressive model affects both the estimation of spillovers and the estimation of spatial disturbances. Consequently, the spatial autoregressive model has the undesirable property that if the degree of spatial dependence in the disturbances differs from that in the spillovers, neither may be estimated ...

Geographical Spillovers and University Research: A Spatial EconometricPerspective
Growth and Change, 2000Using data for U.S. metropolitan statistical areas, an earlier study of aggregate local geographic research spillovers generated by universities (Anselin et al.1997) was extended to a sectorally disaggregated level. These findings suggest the existence of significant sectoral variation with respect to local university effects on innovation.

QUANTIFYING KNOWLEDGE SPILLOVERS USING SPATIAL ECONOMETRIC MODELS
Journal of Regional Science, 2010This paper seeks to develop our understanding of the somewhat diffuse nature of technological externalities and space by associating a geographical dimension with the sectoral dimension. Using a panel data set containing French patents as well as private and public research expenditures by industry and region over the period from 1992 to 2000, this ...

Spatial Convergence and Spillovers in American Invention
Annals of the Association of American Geographers, 2005Abstract Endogenous growth theory places spatial knowledge spillovers at the center of national technological progress. Advances in spatial autocorrelation and regression analyses provide methods to assess the influence of these spillovers on the geographical distribution and growth of invention.

Spatial Spillover in Housing Construction [PDF]
This paper looks at the determinants of regional housing construction using Israeli panel data. We propose a simple model of regional housing markets in which people prefer to live where housing is cheaper and building contractors prefer to build in regions where housing is more expensive.

Spatial Structures and Spatial Spillovers: A GME Approach [PDF]
Spatial econometrics is a subdiscipline that have gained a huge popularity in the last twenty years, not only in theoretical econometrics but in empirical studies as well. Basically, spatial econometric methods measure spatial interaction and incorporate spatial structure into regression analysis.

Research and development (R&D) efficiency assessment is an effective way for policymakers to develop strategies to increase the beneficial impacts of R&D. This study measures regional R&D efficiency from a multi-stage R&D perspective. It examines the spatial spillover effects and value chain spillover effects of R&D using panel data from 2009 to 2016 ...

Spatial knowledge spillovers and regional productivity growth in Europe
Revue d’Économie Régionale & Urbaine, 2007The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects that technological knowledge spillovers at different spatial levels (that is, local, national, and international), have had on labor productivity dynamics in the manufacturing industries in European regions between 1980 and 1992.
