Spatial Variability of Runoff

Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, 1984
Forty contiguous plots (each 27.5m×3.2m) were maintained in a cultivated fallow condition during spring and summer 1981. Twenty‐six runoff events were measured during that period. The runoff variability as expressed by differences between plots was analyzed.

Spatially implicit plankton population models: Transient spatial variability

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2008
Ocean plankton models are useful tools for understanding and predicting the behaviour of planktonic ecosystems. However, when the regions represented by the model grid cells are not well mixed, the population dynamics of grid cell averages may differ from those of smaller scales (such as the laboratory scale). Here, the 'mean field approximation' fails

Spatial Variability of Phosphate Adsorption Parameters

Journal of Environmental Quality, 1988
AbstractReversible phosphate (designated P) adsorption for acid soils with a narrow pH range is described with the Langmuir kinetics equation. Using a combination of two experimental desorption techniques, i.e., desorption in water and desorption in the presence of an “infinite” sink for P, respectively, the adsorption maximum (Qm) and the adsorption ...

Spatial variability of the undrained strength of clays

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1982
The objective of this study is to provide a simple yet accurate procedure for the description of the spatial variability of the undrained shear strength S u of soft clays. This is achieved on the basis of experimental findings and field observations of the depth-dependent nature of S u .

Variable stability of preferences in spatial reasoning

Cognitive Processing, 2013
Previous studies have highlighted the existence of preferences in human spatial reasoning. If people are asked to infer a new spatial relation from a set of given spatial relations, which do not unambiguously constrain the relation that is to be inferred, people often exhibit a preference toward one particular of all possible relations (Jahn et al ...

SPATIAL VARIABILITY OF SOILS∗

Annals of the Association of American Geographers, 1979
ABSTRACT Place-to-place variation within soil units influences the study and use of soil, but is seldom formally acknowledged in soil maps and descriptions. Research on soil variation could be improved by increased coordination of experimental designs and by application of statistical methods suitable for analysis of place-to-place variation, including

Soil: Spatial Variability

2014
Spatial variability occurs at all scales—from micrometer scale (1–10 µm) relevant to microbial processes to continental scale (1000 km) relevant to the distribution of soil orders and climate change. The order of magnitude of the coefficient of variation (CV) of soil properties ranges from a few percent to greater than 100%.

Spatial variability in airborne pollen concentrations

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1975
Tests were conducted to determine the relationship between airborne pollen concentrations and distance. Simultaneous samples were taken in 171 tests with sets of eight rotoslide samplers spaced from one to 486 M. apart in straight lines. Use of all possible pairs gave 28 separation distances. Tests were conducted over a 2-year period in urban and rural
