Self-starting spatiotemporal mode-locking using Mamyshev regenerators
Optics Letters, 2022Bridging multi-mode fibers and Mamyshev regenerators holds promise for pulse energy scaling in fiber lasers. However, initialization of a multi-mode Mamyshev oscillator remains a practical challenge. Here we report self-starting spatiotemporal mode-locking (STML) in a multi-mode Mamyshev oscillator without active assistance.

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2018
We describe, through multiple theoretical and experimental realizations, spatiotemporal mode-locking (STML), the most general form of self-organization in optical oscillators. We discuss qualitatively new kinds of mode-locking, and routes to ultrahigh power, compact lasers.

Narrow bandwidth spatiotemporal mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser
Optics Letters, 2022We report a narrow bandwidth spatiotemporal mode-locked (STML) ytterbium-doped fiber laser, based on a homemade carbon nanotube/polyvinyl alcohol composite film and the multimode interference filtering effect. The wavelength-tunable narrow bandwidth STML operations combined with different pulse states are achieved, including single pulse, multiple ...

Dissecting the Mechanisms of Spatiotemporal Mode-Locking
OSA Advanced Photonics Congress (AP) 2020 (IPR, NP, NOMA, Networks, PVLED, PSC, SPPCom, SOF), 2020We uncover the mechanisms behind a range of new 3D solitons in multimode lasers using an approach called attractor dissection. Experimental measurements allow us to decompose multimode states containing up to 30 million locked modes.

Periodic intensity fluctuations in spatiotemporal mode-locked lasers
Sixteenth National Conference on Laser Technology and Optoelectronics, 2021We report the periodic intensity fluctuations and period-timing bifurcation in a spatiotemporal mode-locked multimode fiber laser. By adjusting the intracavity waveplate or the pump power, the intensity pattern of the spatiotemporal modelocked output could transit from uniformity to period-2, then to period-4.

Period-doubling in spatiotemporal mode-locked lasers
Asia Communications and Photonics Conference/International Conference on Information Photonics and Optical Communications 2020 (ACP/IPOC), 2020We report on the experimental observation and numerical simulation of the nonlinear dynamic of period-doubling in spatiotemporal mode-locked lasers composed of full-multimode fibers. It is found that the dynamics of different transverse modes are different.

Wavelength-switchable spatiotemporal mode-locked multimode fiber laser
2021 19th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN), 2021We propose and demonstrate a wavelength-switchable spatiotemporal mode-locked multimode fiber laser, which relies on spatial beam self-cleaning via the nonlinear Kerr effect to attain high pulse energy with near Gaussian output beam shape. Moreover, it is found that the wavelength-dependent self-cleaning behavior observed at different wavelengths has ...

Spatiotemporal dynamics in spatiotemporal mode-locked multimode fiber lasers
2018 Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP), 2018For the first time, as far as we know, spatiotemporal dynamics are experimentally observed in spatiotemporal mode-locked multimode fiber lasers. A simple theoretical model is proposed, by which the observed spatiotemporal dynamics are explained.
