Abstract A partial replication of Paul's (1966) study used 32 college students with public speaking anxiety. High expectation desensitization subjects received systematic desensitization (SD) and were led to believe that they would improve markedly. A neutral expectation desensitization group received SD, but received neutral cues concerning outcome.
