Glycoprotein YKL-40 Levels in Plasma Are Associated with Fibrotic Changes on HRCT in Asbestos-Exposed Subjects

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2017
YKL-40 is a chitinase-like glycoprotein produced by alternatively activated macrophages that are associated with wound healing and fibrosis. Asbestosis is a chronic asbestos-induced lung disease, in which injury of epithelial cells and activation of ...

Higher sensitivity for traumatic cerebral microbleeds at 7 T ultra-high field MRI: is it clinically significant for the acute state of the patients and later quality of life?

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders, 2020
Background: The present study evaluates the possible prognostic benefits of 7 T susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) of traumatic cerebral microbleeds (TMBs) over 3 T SWI to predict the acute clinical state and subjective impairments, including health ...

Do the severity and the body region of injury correlate with long-term outcome in the severe traumatic patient?

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Anesthesiology, 2014
Background and objectives: To investigate if the Injury Severity Score (ISS) and the Abbreviated Injury Score (AIS) are correlated with the long-term quality of life in severe trauma patients.

On the exact region determined by Spearman’s rho and Spearman’s footrule

open access: yesJournal of Computational and Applied Mathematics
We determine the lower bound for possible values of Spearman's rho of a bivariate copula given that the value of its Spearman's footrule is known and show that this bound is always attained. We also give an estimate for the exact upper bound and prove that the estimate is attained for some but not all values of Spearman's footrule.

Low-contrast visual acuity test is associated with central inflammation and predicts disability development in newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
IntroductionThe visual system is a prominent site of damage in MS since the earliest phases of the disease. Altered low-contrast visual acuity (LCVA) test has been associated with visual impairment and retinal degeneration, predicting medium- and long ...

Does intraoperative bone density testing correlate with parameters of primary implant stability? A pilot study in minipigs

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Dental Research, 2019
Objectives Bone density, surgical protocol, and implant design are the major determinants of primary stability. The goal of this animal trial was to investigate potential correlations of intraoperative bone density testing with clinical and histologic ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Associations between oxygen saturation Index and oxygenation index in neonates with congenital diaphragmatic hernia

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics
ObjectiveTo explore the relationship between Oxygenation Index (OI) and Oxygen Saturation Index (OSI) among infants with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), both within the first 24 h after birth and in extended observations in those who survived ...

A fluctuation test for constant Spearman’s rho with nuisance-free limit distribution [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Statistics & Data Analysis, 2014
A CUSUM type test for constant correlation that goes beyond a previously suggested correlation constancy test by considering Spearman's rho in arbitrary dimensions is proposed. Since the new test does not require the existence of any moments, the applicability on usually heavy-tailed financial data is greatly improved.

Whole‐Body Pattern of Muscle Degeneration and Progression in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize whole‐body intramuscular fat distribution pattern in patients with sarcoglycanopathies and explore correlations with disease severity, duration and age at onset. Methods Retrospective, cross‐sectional, multicentric study enrolling patients with variants in one of the four sarcoglycan genes who underwent whole‐body ...
