Estimating and modelling cure in population-based cancer studies within the framework of flexible parametric survival models

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2011
Background When the mortality among a cancer patient group returns to the same level as in the general population, that is, the patients no longer experience excess mortality, the patients still alive are considered "statistically cured". Cure models can

Origin, evolution and biogeographic dynamics of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) in Southwestern Europe

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Pleistocene is a key period for understanding the evolutionary history and palaeobiogeography of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The species was first documented in southeastern Iberia at the beginning of the Middle Pleistocene and appears to have rapidly spread throughout Southwestern Europe, where it was found in numerous ...

Previously undocumented regional variability in crab‐eating macaque skull sexual dimorphism and its implications for biological and morphometric studies

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract In a large sample of adult crab‐eating macaques, we quantified sexual dimorphism in size, shape, and covariance across the whole skull and among anatomical regions of the cranium and mandible. All regions showed significant mean sex differences, but the magnitude of size and shape dimorphism varied substantially.

The use of complex structure splines in roadway design

open access: yesРоссийский технологический журнал
Objectives. The aim of the work is to develop the theory of spline-approximation of a sequence of points on a plane for using compound splines with a complex structure.

Developmental differences in cortical bone structure in chimpanzee and human femora reflect early locomotor independence in humans

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The cortical bone structure of long bone diaphyses changes throughout growth via skeletal modeling and has important implications for bone strength and structural integrity. Ontogenetic trends in diaphyseal structure have been identified in both chimpanzees and humans but it is not yet clear how these trends compare given notable differences ...

Challenges and Opportunities in Multi‐Method Integrated Geophysical Prospection of Buried Building Remains at the Sanctuary of Olympia

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ancient Olympia was one of the most important sanctuaries and the venue for the Olympic Games in Greek and Roman times. Its remains are located in the Olympia Terrace (Peloponnese, Greece) at the present‐day confluence of the rivers Alpheios and Kladeos at the base of Mount Kronos.

Completion vs. early discontinuation of chemotherapy and the impact on 5‐year all‐cause mortality in women treated for early‐stage breast cancer from 2015 to 2020: A cohort study using a target trial emulation approach

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Aim Chemotherapy is given for early‐stage breast cancer; however, some patients discontinue before completing all planned cycles. This study investigated the impact of early chemotherapy discontinuation on treatment outcomes. Methods This retrospective cohort study used a target trial emulation framework to conduct a causal analysis of the all‐

Decarbonization Boundary Choices and the Effectiveness of Stakeholder Engagement in Voluntary Climate Action Commitments: Evidence From Emerging Economies

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines how stakeholder engagement, conceptualized as a boundary‐spanning organizational capability, interacts with firms' decarbonization strategies, in relation to climate action commitments (CACs) in voluntary initiatives.

Comparison of Parametric Rate Models for Gap Times Between Recurrent Events

open access: yesMathematics
Over the past two decades, substantial efforts have been made to develop survival models for gap times between recurrent events. An emerging approach involves considering rate models derived from a non-homogeneous Poisson process, thus allowing the ...
