Asking the 5 W's for designing next‐generation bioprocessing

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Biotechnology is expanding beyond traditional, centralized fermentation and toward next‐generation bioprocessing paradigms that emphasize flexible deployment outside the laboratory with application‐specific performance. However, many bioprocesses fail to translate beyond proof‐of‐concept into industrially viable systems because early design ...

Toward Intelligent Multimodal Holography for Real‐Time Chemical Imaging of Dynamic Ion Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Intelligent multimodal holography integrates digital off‐axis holography, spectroscopic imaging, and AI‐driven reconstruction to visualize ion transport and chemical dynamics in real time. In this perspective paper, we outline how this approach enables label‐free, chemically specific monitoring of complex environments and discuss its potential to ...

An annotated checklist of the psyllids (Hemiptera, Psylloidea) of Norfolk Island with keys to species, new records, and descriptions of two new endemic species [PDF]

open access: yes
Norfolk Island is a small, isolated archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, 1400 km east of the Australian mainland. The history of human colonisation and land use on the island has resulted in a substantial reduction in the extent and quality of indigenous ...

AI‐Guided Co‐Optimization of Advanced Field‐Effect Transistors: Bridging Material, Device, and Fabrication Design

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This article outlines how artificial intelligence could reshape the design of next‐generation transistors as traditional scaling reaches its limits. It discusses emerging roles of machine learning across materials selection, device modeling, and fabrication processes, and highlights hierarchical reinforcement learning as a promising framework for ...

Interpretable Machine Learning for Bandgap Prediction and Descriptor‐Guided Design Rules of Phosphates

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
An explainable CatBoost model was trained to predict the bandgaps of 474 phosphate crystals based on composition and density descriptors. SHAP analysis identified two key variables—d‐electron‐count dispersion and atomic‐density dispersion—as the primary drivers of the model's predictions.

A new species of Thecadactylus from Sint Maarten, Lesser Antilles (Reptilia, Squamata, Gekkonidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We describe a new species of Thecadactylusfrom the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten. The new species differs from all other species in the genus by having a distinct dorsal pattern of numerous irregular but sharply deliminated black spots and blotches on

Quantum Phenomena in Molecular and Biological Systems: A Decoherence‐Based Decision Framework With Falsifiable Predictions and a Failure‐Mode Taxonomy

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
A physics‐grounded framework based on decoherence timescales (τ_dec vs τ_func), Markovian validity, and falsifiability criteria is applied across molecular systems to distinguish where quantum effects are necessary, marginal, or irrelevant. The analysis integrates quantum chemistry, biological quantum mechanisms, and quantum computing under a unified ...
