Multilocus species-delimitation in the Xerotyphlops vermicularis (Reptilia: Typhlopidae) species complex

open access: yesMolecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2020
Scolecophidia (worm snakes) are a vertebrate group with high ecomorphological conservatism due to their burrowing lifestyle. The Eurasian or Greek blindsnake Xerotyphlops vermicularis is their only European representative, a species-complex with an old diversification history. However, its systematics and taxonomy has remained untouched.

From the Clinical Mycology Laboratory: New Species and Changes in Fungal Taxonomy and Nomenclature

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2018
Fungal taxonomy is the branch of mycology by which we classify and group fungi based on similarities or differences. Historically, this was done by morphologic characteristics and other phenotypic traits.

Comparative Genomic and Metagenomic Investigations of the Corynebacterium tuberculostearicum Species Complex Reveals Potential Mechanisms Underlying Associations To Skin Health and Disease

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
Corynebacterium are a diverse genus and dominant member of the human skin microbiome. Recently, we reported that the most prevalent Corynebacterium species found on skin, including Corynebacterium tuberculostearicum and Corynebacterium kefirresidentii ...

A model for the emergence of cooperation, interdependence and structure in evolving networks

open access: yes, 2000
Evolution produces complex and structured networks of interacting components in chemical, biological, and social systems. We describe a simple mathematical model for the evolution of an idealized chemical system to study how a network of cooperative ...

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

The Parasitoid Complex of Forest Tent Caterpillar, \u3ci\u3eMalacosoma Disstria\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae), in Eastern Wyoming Shelterbelts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A parasitoid complex affecting the forest tent caterpillar, Malacosoma disstria, was investigated during 1978-79 in shelterbelts in eastern Wyoming.

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Xiphinema krugi, Species Complex or Complex of Cryptic Species?

open access: yesJournal of nematology, 2012
Fourteen morphologically putative populations of X. krugi were clearly separated into four different profiles by RFLP analysis (Alu I and Hinf I), sequencing of the ITS-1 region, and subsequent Maximum Likelihood phylogenetic analyses. These four profiles were further supported by a principal component analysis of morphometric characters that yielded ...

Expanding Soil Invertebrate Knowledge in Panama: The Genus Lepidocyrtus (Collembola, Entomobryidae) in the Parque Natural Metropolitano as a Study Case

open access: yesInsects
Panama, located in the heart of the Mesoamerican hotspot, harbors an extraordinary species diversity across the Tree of Life. The Collembola species of the genus Lepidocyrtus play an important role in soil biological processes such as decomposition ...

Experimental hybridization and reproductive isolation between two sympatric species of tephritid fruit flies in the Anastrepha fraterculus species group [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Among tephritid fruit flies, hybridzation has been found to produce local adaptationand speciation, and in the case of pest species, induce behavioral and ecological alterations that can adversely impact efficient pest management. The fraterculus species
