Species diversity of Basidiomycota

open access: yesFungal Diversity, 2022
Fungi are eukaryotes that play essential roles in ecosystems. Among fungi, Basidiomycota is one of the major phyla with more than 40,000 described species. We review species diversity of Basidiomycota from five groups with different lifestyles or habitats: saprobic in grass/forest litter, wood-decaying, yeast-like, ectomycorrhizal, and plant parasitic.

Species diversity in Pseudocercospora.

open access: yesFungal Syst Evol
Species of Pseudocercospora are commonly associated with leaf and fruit spots on diverse plant hosts in sub-tropical and tropical regions. Pseudocercospora spp. have mycosphaerella-like sexual morphs, but represent a distinct genus in Mycosphaerellaceae (Mycosphaerellales, Dothideomycetes).

Metabolomics analysis of mycelial exudates provides insights into fungal antagonists of Armillaria

open access: yesMycology, 2023
The genus Armillaria has high edible and medical values, with zones of antagonism often occurring when different species are paired in culture on agar media, while the antagonism-induced metabolic alteration remains unclear.

Epidemic Identification of Fungal Diseases in Morchella Cultivation across China

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2022
True morels (Morchella, Pezizales) are world-renowned edible mushrooms (ascocarps) that are widely demanded in international markets. Morchella has been successfully artificially cultivated since 2012 in China and is rapidly becoming a new edible ...

Anemochore Seeds Harbor Distinct Fungal and Bacterial Abundance, Composition, and Functional Profiles

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2022
Many plants adapted to harsh environments have evolved low seed mass (‘light seeds’) with specific dispersal strategies, primarily either by wind (anemochory) or water (hydrochory).

Wild Panax plants adapt to their thermal environment by harboring abundant beneficial seed endophytic bacteria

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2022
The seed microbiome of crop wild relatives is a potential reservoir of beneficial traits that potentially improve their host plant resilience to fluctuating environments and pathogenic threats.

Spatial and temporal variation in crop diversity in agroforestry homegardens of southern Ethiopia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A key assumption in many homegarden studies is that homegardens are ecologically and socio-economically sustainable due to their species diversity. The precise relation between diversity and sustainability is still heavily debated, however.

Macrofungi Cultivation in Shady Forest Areas Significantly Increases Microbiome Diversity, Abundance and Functional Capacity in Soil Furrows

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2021
Cultivating macrofungi is an important management measure to develop economy in shady forest areas; however, its effect on soil ecology, especially microbial abundance and structure, remains insufficiently studied.

Structure of the Mating-Type Genes and Mating Systems of Verpa bohemica and Verpa conica (Ascomycota, Pezizomycotina)

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2023
Verpa spp. are potentially important economic fungi within Morchellaceae. However, fundamental research on their mating systems, the key aspects of their life cycle, remains scarce.
