Species-diversity and pattern-diversity in the study of ecological succession

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1966
Abstract A measurable property of any collection of organisms containing more than one species is its “species-diversity”. Methods of measuring species-diversity based on the information content of a collection are reviewed. A collection consisting of a community of sessile organisms, such as terrestrial plants, also has “pattern-diversity”.

Species Richness and Diversity

2012
This chapter reviews the literature on species richness and species diversity. The two concepts are closely related, but are not synonyms. Species richness is estimated dividing the number of species by the geographic area. On the other hand, species diversity is a function of the number of species present (i.e.

Bird Species Diversity: The Effect of Species Richness and Equitability on the Diversity Index

Ecology, 1972
A study of bird species diversity (BSD) on three seral stages characteristic of secondary succession on the New Jersey Piedmont was done during the winter of 1968—69, the spring of 1969, and the summer of 1969. The seral studies were a 2— to 33—year—old field (the herbaceous field), a 30—year—old field (the cedar field), and a climax oak—hickory forest
