Comparison of National and Regional Assessments of Soil Loss Rates by Water Erosion and Soil Erosion Control: An Application to the Tuscany Region (Italy)

open access: yesLand
Soil erosion assessments for policy are often derived from continental-scale datasets, but their suitability for regional planning remains unclear. This study compares two Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) applications for Tuscany, Italy: one ...

A Practical Noise2Noise Denoising Pipeline for High‐Throughput Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A lightweight and reproducible denoising pipeline for high‐throughput Raman spectroscopy is introduced, based on a 1D convolutional autoencoder trained with a Noise2Noise strategy. Using only repeated short‐exposure acquisitions, the method suppresses stochastic noise without reference spectra, enabling reliable spectral reconstruction while preserving

The Prohibition of Arbitrary Deprivation of Nationality under International Law and EU Law: New Perspectives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Arbitrary deprivation of nationality is of serious concern to the international community. Such acts of the State effectively place the persons concerned in a ‘legal vacuum’ regarding the enjoyment of their human rights and fundamental freedoms, in ...

Governing Smart City Development in Post-War Ukraine

open access: yesTransylvanian Review of Administrative Sciences
This paper examines the critical governance choices for integrating ‘smart city’ principles into Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction, aiming to transform devastated urban areas into resilient, inclusive, and technologically advanced environments. The study

Enhancing Fatigue Crack Growth Resistance in Heterostructured Aluminum Bimetals by Tailored Interface Design

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Different Al/Al bimetals with a single engineered interface reveal how mechanical mismatch governs fatigue crack growth under cyclic loading. Additionally, loading–unloading–reloading tests link the microyielding behavior to the fatigue crack growth resistance, while crack‐path analysis reveals toughening mechanisms at the interface, highlighting ...

Integration of OpenCV‐Based Microscopic Adhesive Volume Measurement Into a Pyiron Workflow for Automated Data Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Residual adhesive after electrode loading in adhesive‐assisted resistance spot welding is quantified through a traceable experimental‐to‐digital workflow. Chromatic confocal topography provides calibrated surface‐height data, while OpenCV detects the electrode imprint and integrates adhesive height into comparable volume metrics.

Microstructure Modification of Additively Manufactured Mo–9Si–8B by Annealing and Its Effects on High‐Temperature Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Postbuild annealing systematically modifies the phase fractions and morphology of EB‐PBF processed Mo–9Si–8B. Quantitative microstructure–property correlations reveal how controlled phase evolution enhances high‐temperature compressive strength and creep resistance.

Model‐Guided Design of Paper Membrane Architectures for Controlled Flow and Enhanced Diagnostic Sensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometrical modifications on nitrocellulose membranes can result in observable differences in signal intensity relative to a reference membrane (top and bottom left). Using two reference experiments, we have developed a theoretical model that can reproduce the experimentally observed flow changes and provide information on membrane parameters, e.g ...
