Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

More on energy and Randic energy of specific graphs

open access: yes, 2014
Let $G$ be a simple graph of order $n$. The energy $E(G)$ of the graph $G$ is the sum of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of $G$. The Randi\'{c} matrix of $G$, denoted by $R(G)$, is defined as the $n\times n$ matrix whose $(i,j)$-entry is $(d_id_j)^

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Thermal Effects on the Low Energy N=2 SUSY Yang-Mills Theory

open access: yes, 1999
Using the low energy effective action of the N=2 supersymmetric SU(2) Yang-Mills theory we calculate the free energy at finite temperature, both in the semiclassical region and in the dual monopole/dyon theory.

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

The critical size of brittle solid materials and the measurement of their surface tension

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2012
The relationship of the energy required to break a particle or a particulate material vs. particle size has been studied by many researchers. On the one hand, mineral processing engineers, who are interested in the specific energy (in joules per cubic ...

The three-dimensional XY universality class: A high precision Monte Carlo estimate of the universal amplitude ratio A_+/A_-

open access: yes, 2006
We simulate the improved three-dimensional two-component phi^4 model on the simple cubic lattice in the low and the high temperature phase for reduced temperatures down to |T-T_c|/T_c \approx 0.0017 on lattices of a size up to 350^3.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Thermal-breaking characteristics and crack distribution of rock irradiated by laser beams

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
The laser-assisted rock breaking is a non-contact technology employed for the rock fragmentation, with its efficiency contingent upon the laser power, irradiation time and defocusing distance. To explore the effects of various irradiation parameters, the
