Measurement of specific leaf area

open access: yes
Leaf specific surface area (SLA) plays a key role in many studies on plants, providing valuable information on their growth and adaptation strategies. Its measurement follows a well-defined process, which includes leaf sampling, acquisition and analysis of digital images, and subsequent data processing.

Delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins in mice using cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cutaneous suction‐mediated transfection in mice for delivery of DNA‐encoded vaccines and proteins. A critical limitation of DNA vaccines and other therapeutics is transfection in vivo to produce the encoded antigens or therapeutic proteins. Cutaneous suction‐based methods have demonstrated effectiveness in many animal models and have been successfully ...

Pollarding effects on Lebanon oak (Quercus libani Oliv.) leaf properties in Baneh forests [PDF]

open access: yesمجله جنگل ایران, 2015
To evaluate the morphological effects of pollarding on Lebanon oak (Quercus libani Oliv.) leaves, we selected 35 trees in untouched stands and stands which have trees with one, two and three years after pollarding.

Growth, physiology and yield responses of cabbage to deficit irrigation

open access: yesHorticultural Science, 2014
Field experiments were conducted in two seasons to investigate growth, physiology and yield responses of cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. cvs Pennant and Rio Grande) to deficit irrigation.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

The relationship of leaf photosynthetic traits – Vcmax and Jmax – to leaf nitrogen, leaf phosphorus, and specific leaf area: a meta‐analysis and modeling study [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2014
AbstractGreat uncertainty exists in the global exchange of carbon between the atmosphere and the terrestrial biosphere. An important source of this uncertainty lies in the dependency of photosynthesis on the maximum rate of carboxylation (Vcmax) and the maximum rate of electron transport (Jmax).

Genotypic variation in photosynthesis in cacao is correlated with stomatal conductance and leaf nitrogen

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2011
Variation in photosynthetic parameters was observed between eight contrasting cacao (Theobroma cacao) genotypes. Net photosynthetic rate (PN) ranged from 3.4 to 5.7 μmol(CO2) m-2 s-1 for the genotypes IMC 47 and SCA 6, respectively.

Integration of Serum Neurofilament Light Chain and Cortical Dysfunction Improves Diagnostic Accuracy in ALS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine whether integration of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) and cortical dysfunction improves diagnostic accuracy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) when applied alongside the Gold Coast criteria (GCC). Methods In this prospective study, 148 participants with suspected ALS were recruited (101 ALS and 47 with ALS ...

The Lupus Damage Index Revision Program: Results From the Item Generation and Reduction Phases

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective A data‐driven and expert/patient consensus‐based project to develop a revised Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC)/American College of Rheumatology (ACR) Damage Index (SDI) is under way supported by SLICC, ACR, and the Lupus Foundation of America. Our objective is to report the item generation and reduction phase results

Leaf area index from litter collection: impact of specific leaf area variability within a beech stand

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Remote Sensing, 2003
Litter fall collection is a direct method widely used to estimate leaf area index (LAI) in broad-leaved forest stands. Indirect measurements using radiation transmittance and gap fraction theory are often compared and calibrated against litter fall, which is considered as a reference method, but few studies address the question of litter specific leaf ...
