Differential Specific Mechanical Energy as a Quality Parameter in Racing Alpine Skiing
Journal of Applied Biomechanics, 2008An important question in alpine skiing is how to determine characteristics of well-performed ski turns, an issue that has become more crucial with the arrival of new carving skis. This article introduces a new method for estimating the quality of skiing at each point of observation based on mechanical energy behavior that can be measured using ...

Tracking Drilling Efficiency Using Hydro-Mechanical Specific Energy
SPE/IADC Drilling Conference and Exhibition, 2009Abstract Over the last few years, different types of bits have been introduced to meet the challenges of steerable as well as rotary steerable systems; and it is imperative that bits be utilized optimally in these systems. As challenges increase with increasing depths, it becomes even more important for one to efficiently utilize the ...

Theories and Applications of Pulsed-Jet Drilling With Mechanical Specific Energy
SPE Journal, 2016Summary Mechanical specific energy (MSE) is the amount of energy required to destroy a unit volume of rock. The main work of this study is to bring the hydraulic energy of a pulsed jet into an MSE model and further analyze the mechanism of improving the rate of penetration (ROP) for pulsed-jet drilling on the basis of the model ...

AbstractThe stereoregularity of polystyrenes prepared in the presence of different syndiotactic specific homogeneous catalysts, at different temperatures and monomer concentrations, has been evaluated by 13C NMR. It is confirmed that the statistical model of the stereospecific propagation is first‐order Markovian.

ABSTRACTThe conventional way to assess drilling performance in the oil field is to compare actual performance to statistical standards derived from offset records. By their nature, these standards are subjective and variable. While they are ideal to monitor short-range performance and trends in well- known, older fields, they lack the power of physical

Mechanical Specific Energy for Drilling Optimization in Deepwater Brazilian Salt Environments
IADC/SPE Asia Pacific Drilling Technology Conference, 2016Abstract Operators exploring presalt areas report issues with bottomhole assembly (BHA) wear and failure resulting from factors such as vibrations, stick-slip, and torsional resonance during drilling operations in salt layers. This study presents a new real-time analysis based on geomechanics capability to optimize energy consumption and

Pore-Pressure Estimation by Use of Mechanical Specific Energy and Drilling Efficiency
SPE Drilling & Completion, 2017Summary Estimates of formation pore pressure before and while drilling are important inputs for well planning and operational decision making. A method is proposed to determine pore pressure from a combination of downhole drilling-mechanics parameters and in-situ rock data with the concept of mechanical specific energy ...

Specific economic regulation mechanisms of investment in new energy infrastructure
2018Energy infrastructure operators are characterized by capital intensity and long periods of return on investment. In order for the price of use of the infrastructure to be within a reasonable frame, the regulatory framework should define appropriate and efficient methods of economic regulation.

Mechanical Specific Energy: Derivation, Understanding and Relationship to Formation Strength
SPE/IADC International Drilling Conference and ExhibitionAbstract The Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE) model is used widely in the drilling industry. However, its use has been questioned in a two-part series in the SPE-IADC Drilling Conference, "Mechanical Specific Energy (MSE): Claims and Implications – Facts, Fallacies, and Pitfalls" (Samuel and Mensa-Wilmot, 2023 SPE 212508, 2024 SPE 217727)

Effect of Specific Mechanical Energy on Properties of Extruded Protein‐Starch Mixtures
Cereal Chemistry, 2002ABSTRACTThe effect of the specific mechanical energy (SME) during extrusion of a protein‐starch mixture was studied by analyzing the glass transition temperature (Tg) and starch gelatinization. We found that the SME values of 344 to 2108 kJ/kg did not significantly change the Tg of the product.
