Investigation of the flotation behaviour of ball mill and IsaMill products [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Includes bibliographical references.Valuable minerals that are used in various aspects of everyday life are buried in fossilised storages below the ground in the earth's crust.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Condoms are more effective when applied by males: a study of young black males in the United States

open access: yes, 2014
PurposeTo determine, among a sample of young black male (YBM), whether female application of male condoms for penile–vaginal intercourse would be associated with higher or lower rates of breakage or slippage.

Study on long-term direct shear effects on the particle breakage characteristics of calcium sand

open access: yesShuili Shuiyun Gongcheng Xuebao
The particle breakage characteristics of calcium sand under long-term direct shear are important factors affecting the shear creep deformation of calcium sand.

Nijmegen breakage syndrome: case report and review of literature

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2020
Nijmegen Breakage Syndrome (NBS) is a rare autosomal recessive DNA repair disorder characterized by genomic instability and increased risk of haematopoietic malignancies observed in more than 40% of the patients by the time they are 20 years old.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Factors affecting sunflower threshing performance of a small axial flow threshing unit

open access: yesEngineering and Applied Science Research, 2022
The small axial flow threshing unit design for mounting on tractors tractor was necessary to study the design factors for the threshing unit to have high performance, and low cost of the machine.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...
