Specificity and Speed: Tethered Photopharmacology

Biochemistry, 2017
Genetics and pharmacology are often seen as two distinct approaches to interrogating, elucidating, and manipulating biological systems. The former is renowned for its precision whereas the latter for its fast kinetics, reversibility, and practicality.

Analysis of Specific Speed Testing for Cricketers

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2013
A characteristic of cricket sprints, which may require specific assessment, is that players carry a bat when running between the wickets. This study analyzed the relationships between general and specific cricket speed tests, which included 30-m sprint (0- to 5-, 0- to 10-, 0- to 30-m intervals; general); 505 change-of-direction speed test with left ...

Speeding up sequence specific assignment of IDPs

Journal of Biomolecular NMR, 2012
The characterization of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) by NMR spectroscopy is made difficult by the extensive spectral overlaps. To overcome the intrinsic low-resolution of the spectra the introduction of high-dimensionality experiments is essential.

Specific Ionization by High-speed Particles [PDF]

open access: possibleNature, 1937
THEORETICAL calculation of the interaction between fast electrons and hydrogen atoms (Bethe, Williams1, etc.) predict an increase of primary ionization when the energy of the incident particle exceeds about one million electron-volts. Wilson chamber experiments have not yet given quantitative results of sufficient precision to ascertain if that ...

Speed of Processing in Children With Specific Language Impairment

Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 2001
The aim of the present study was to investigate the speed with which children with specific language impairment (SLI) respond on a range of tasks. Seventy-seven third-grade children participated in 10 different tasks (involving a total of 41 conditions), including nonlinguistic and linguistic activities.

The effects of a specific prompting sign on speed reduction

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 1987
The purpose of this experiment was to determine whether a specifically worded prompting sign ("BEGIN SLOWING HERE") could reduce speeding where a highway entered an urban area with a residential speed limit. Speed measurements were obtained on vehicles at the start of the residential speed limit zone.

Design, specification, and manufacturing of a PIAACMC for the SPEED testbed

Ground-based and Airborne Instrumentation for Astronomy VII, 2018
The Phase-Induced Amplitude Apodization Complex Mask Coronagraph (PIAACMC) is a promising corona- graphic device for direct detection of exoplanets with complex segmented telescope apertures. This concept features the bright idea of generating a pupil apodization by reflection on two mirrors whose wavefront maps are specifically optimized, and a ...

Specificity effects in training and transfer of speeded responses.

Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 2006
In 3 experiments, participants, on signal, moved a cursor from a central position to 1 of 8 numerically labeled locations on the circumference of a clock face. Movements were controlled by a mouse in 1 of 4 conditions: vertical reversal, horizontal reversal, combined reversals, or normal (i.e., no reversals).

Transfer Effects of Learning at Specific Speeds on Performance over a Range of Speeds

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980
The effect of learning a novel skill at specific speeds on performance over a range of speeds was examined on the pursuit rotor. Three groups of subjects were given three days of training: Group 1 at 30 rpm, Group 2 at 60 rpm, and Group 3 at 30–45.60 rpm. Group 4, a control, practiced on a pegboard task during this period.

Novel Speed Test for Evaluation of Badminton-Specific Movements

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2015
In this study, we developed a novel badminton-specific speed test (BST). The test was designed to mimic match play. The test starts in the center of the court and consists of 5 maximal actions to sensors located in each of the 4 corners of the court.
