Development of a High-Specific-Speed Centrifugal Compressor

Journal of Turbomachinery, 1996
This paper describes the development of a subscale single-stage centrifugal compressor with a dimensionless specific speed (Ns) of 1.8, originally designed for full-size application as a high volume flow, low pressure ratio, gas booster compressor. The specific stage is noteworthy in that it provides a benchmark representing the performance potential ...

Specific relations between alphanumeric-naming speed and reading speeds of monosyllabic and multisyllabic words

Applied Psycholinguistics, 2003
The goals of this study are to investigate, at three elementary school grade levels, how word reading speed is related to rapidly naming series of numbers, letters, colors, and pictures, and to general processing speed (measured by nonnaming or visual matching tasks), and also to determine how these relationships vary with the reading task employed ...

Handwriting Speed, Specific Learning Difficulties and the GCSE

Educational Psychology in Practice, 1992
Summary The need for clear criteria necessary for special arrangements for the GCSE is put forward in the context of increasing numbers of referrals of candidates with specific learning difficulties. Slow writing speed is suggested as a difficulty where there is a lack of research and appropriate published tests. Psychologists, however, are expected to

Specific wind energy as a function of mean speed

Renewable Energy, 1992
Abstract The most important parameter for the calculation of the specific wind energy is the duration for each wind speed separately. This paper includes the Rayleigh distribution and real variable efficiency depending on the mean wind speed in comparison with Betz limits and 100% efficiency.

Aging and counting speed: Evidence for process-specific slowing.

Psychology and Aging, 1997
The performance of adults ranging in age from 20 to 86 on two nonlexical tasks that required different types of counting operations was examined. Subproportional age effects for incrementing speed and for enumeration speed (counting 5 to 8 items) indicate that some types of counting processes are exempt from the slowing effects of aging.

AN EXPERIMENTAL DETERMINATION OF FIDLER SCANNING EFFICIENCY AT SPECIFIC SPEEDS

Health Physics, 2003
As part of mass remediation efforts across the country some radiation detection systems are now being used in conjunction with data logging and positioning system technology. These systems can be used in the scanning mode, simultaneously recording both count rate and position. Following data analysis, hot spots can be identified and remediation efforts

Development of Speed Correction Factors Based on Speed-Specific Distributions of Vehicle Specific Power for Urban Restricted-Access Roadways

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 2016
Precise facility-specific speed correction factors (SCFs) are important parameters for direct and quick evaluation of the effect of traffic flow variations on vehicle emissions. However, the traditional method in developing SCFs is time consuming and costly, which impedes the development of SCFs and their applications.

Specificity or Generality of Speed of Systematically Related Movements

Research Quarterly. American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1961
Abstract The maximal speeds of discrete arm and leg movements similar to the actions of throwing a baseball or kicking a football were tested in 80 college men. Repetitive (cyclic) movements involving both arms or both legs were also measured. Individual differences were highly reliable, ranging from r = .92 to .99.

Influence of Large Change of Specific Speed on the Performance of Very Low Specific Speed Centrifugal Pump

Journal of Fluid Machinery, 2006
Efficiency of a centrifugal pump is known to drop rapidly with a decrease of specific speed .

The Quest for Sensitivity, Specificity, and Speed in Chemical Analysis

Analytical Letters, 1976
Abstract One of the fascinating features of analytical chemistry is the continuous challenge it provides the practitioners of this profession. As we are confronted with our current analytical problems and anticipate even more thought provoking and complex problems in the future it is reassuring to pause and examine the progress that has been made and ...
