Determination of soil specific surface area by water vapor adsorption: II Dependence of soil specific surface area on clay and organic carbon content

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 1987
The specific surface area of 60 mineral soil samples estimated by water vapor adsorption at 20 % relative humidity ranged from 12.1 ± 3.6 to 225.1 ±18.4 m2/g.

Phosphoric acid treatment of steelmaking dust and slag for agricultural soil conditioning: enhanced phosphorus incorporation and surface area

open access: yesDiscover Chemistry
Steel industry residues are an abundant source of mineral materials that can be converted into valuable products for agricultural use. This study aimed to modify steelmaking slag (SS) and electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) with phosphoric acid (H3PO4) to ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

BEaTmap: Simplified Rigorous BET Analysis of Isothermal Adsorption Data

open access: yesJournal of Open Research Software
BEaTmap is an open-source software designed to improve the analysis of isothermal adsorption data. The specific surface area of a porous material is commonly obtained through applying the classic BET theory to the adsorption of inert gases and vapors in ...

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

The Effects of the Polymers as a Sacrificed Material for the Hydroxyapatite Powder Synthesized by an Ultrasonic Spray Pyrolysis Process [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials
The HAp (hydroxyapatite) excellent ion exchange resin and has adsorption properties of heavy metals and organic materials. It is used as an adsorption material and as an organic drug-delivery material due to these characteristics, that are essentially ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Measuring the specific surface area of wet snow using 1310 nm reflectance [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2014
The specific surface area (SSA) of snow can be used as an objective measurement of grain size and is therefore a central variable to describe snow physical properties such as albedo.
