Computational predictions of hydrogen-assisted fatigue crack growth [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
A new model is presented to predict hydrogen-assisted fatigue. The model combines a phase field description of fracture and fatigue, stress-assisted hydrogen diffusion, and a toughness degradation formulation with cyclic and hydrogen contributions. Hydrogen-assisted fatigue crack growth predictions exhibit an excellent agreement with experiments over ...

Engineering Magnetotactic Bacteria as Medical Microrobots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) are living microorganisms that produce magnetosomes for navigation using the Earth's geomagnetic field. Their built‐in magnetic components, along with their intrinsic and/or modified biological functions, make them one of the most promising platforms for making future living and programmable microrobots.

Stress, Strain, or Displacement? A Novel Machine Learning Based Framework to Predict Mixed Mode I/II Fracture Toughness [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Accurate prediction of fracture toughness under complex loading conditions, like mixed mode I/II, is essential for reliable failure assessment. This paper aims to develop a machine learning framework for predicting fracture toughness and crack initiation angles by directly utilizing stress, strain, or displacement distributions represented by selected ...

Intertwined Topological Phases in TaAs2 Nanowires with Giant Magnetoresistance and Quantum Coherent Surface Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Synthesis of topological semimetal TaAs2 nanowires in situ encapsulated with a thin SiO2 shell unravel a richness of intertwined topological phases manifested by their magnetotransport features: A near‐room‐temperature metal‐to‐insulator transition, strong expressions of topologically nontrivial surface transport, giant magnetoresistance with direction‐

Hydrogel‐Mediated Preservation of Live Tumor Explants for Drug Development in Peritoneal Metastases

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a hyaluronan‐based hydrogel platform preserving the native tumor microenvironment (morphology, tissue composition, histology) of patient‐derived explants from peritoneal metastases, enabling clinically relevant drug screening. Hydrogel properties such as stiffness and degradation are crucial for longer‐term histoculture.
