Phase-field modeling of fluid-driven dynamic cracking in porous media [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2019, 350: 169-198, 2023
A phase field model for fluid-driven dynamic crack propagation in poroelastic media is proposed. Therefore, classical Biot poroelasticity theory is applied in the porous medium while arbitrary crack growth is naturally captured by the phase field model.

Scalable and accurate multi-GPU based image reconstruction of large-scale ptychography data [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports 12, 5334 (2022), 2021
While the advances in synchrotron light sources, together with the development of focusing optics and detectors, allow nanoscale ptychographic imaging of materials and biological specimens, the corresponding experiments can yield terabyte-scale large volumes of data that can impose a heavy burden on the computing platform.

Systematic orientation of fresh rectal suction biopsies improves histopathological diagnostics in hirschsprung’s disease – a method description and preliminary report

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics, 2023
Background Optimizing rectal suction biopsy (RSB) diagnostics in Hirschsprung’s disease (HD) may shorten diagnostic time and prevent need for repeated biopsies. Aim To explore whether systematic orientation of fresh RSB specimens increased biopsy quality,

Application of terahertz spectroscopy to the characterization of biological samples using birefringence silicon grating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present a device and method for performing vector transmission spectroscopy on biological specimens at terahertz (THz) frequencies. The device consists of artificial dielectric birefringence obtained from silicon microfluidic grating structures. The

Capturing natural-colour 3D models of insects for species discovery [PDF]

open access: yespublished 2014, 2017
Collections of biological specimens are fundamental to scientific understanding and characterization of natural diversity. This paper presents a system for liberating useful information from physical collections by bringing specimens into the digital domain so they can be more readily shared, analyzed, annotated and compared.
