Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

IqgC is a RasGAP from Dictyostelium discoideum. IqgC binds RasG via its RasGAP domain and deactivates it on macroendocytic cups, thereby suppressing the uptake of fluid and particles. IqgC has a positive effect on cell‐substratum adhesion, and its RGCt domain is required for recruitment to ventral foci.

Different methods for characterizing surface roughness using laser speckle technique
In this work, results from an optical technique (laser speckle technique) for measuring surface roughness was done by using statistical properties of speckle pattern from the point of view of computer image texture analysis.

Application of laser speckle contrast imaging in laparoscopic surgery.
Anastomotic leakage is a worldwide problem in gastrointestinal surgery which seems to be related to the state of microcirculation. Laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) could give surgeons insight in the state of microcirculation to attune the site of ...

Speckle Statistics in Adaptively Corrected Images
(abridged) Imaging observations are generally affected by a fluctuating background of speckles, a particular problem when detecting faint stellar companions at small angular separations.

PeX 1. Multi-spectral expansion of residual speckles for planet detection [PDF]
The detection of exoplanets in coronographic images is severely limited by residual starlight speckles. Dedicated post-processing can drastically reduce this "stellar leakage" and thereby increase the faintness of detectable exoplanets.

Skin biopsies taken from a patient with an ultra‐rare disorder as well as controls were cultured for up to 473 days. The chunks of skin were serially transferred to a new culture plate when confluent with fibroblasts. Different generations of fibroblasts were analyzed for cell and molecular properties, proliferation, and competence for reprogramming to

Speckle Control with a remapped-pupil PIAA-coronagraph
The PIAA is a now well demonstrated high contrast technique that uses an intermediate remapping of the pupil for high contrast coronagraphy (apodization), before restoring it to recover classical imaging capabilities.

Metformin mediates mitochondrial quality control in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) fibroblasts carrying mtDNA mutations. At therapeutic levels, metformin activates AMPK signaling to restore mitochondrial dynamics by promoting fusion and restraining fission, while preserving mitochondrial mass, enhancing autophagy/mitophagy and biogenesis ...

Assessment of microcirculation in the diabetic foot with laser speckle contrast imaging
Objective: A major challenge for treating diabetic foot ulcers is estimating the severity of ischemia, as the currently used non-invasive diagnostic techniques provide relatively poor prognostic values.
