Speckle Decorrelation and Dynamic Range in Speckle Noise Limited Imaging [PDF]

open access: greenarXiv, 2003
The useful dynamic range of an image in the diffraction limited regime is usually limited by speckles caused by residual phase errors in the optical system forming the image. The technique of speckle decorrelation involves introducing many independent realizations of additional phase error into a wavefront during one speckle lifetime, changing the ...

Noise in laser speckle correlation and imaging techniques [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
We study the noise of the intensity variance and of the intensity correlation and structure functions measured in light scattering from a random medium in the case when these quantities are obtained by averaging over a finite number N of pixels of a ...

Speckle noise and dynamic range in coronagraphic images [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2007
This paper is concerned with the theoretical properties of high contrast coronagraphic images in the context of exoplanet searches. We derive and analyze the statistical properties of the residual starlight in coronagraphic images, and describe the effect of a coronagraph on the speckle and photon noise.

Real Time Speckle Image De-Noising [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Vision Computing: An International Journal (AVC) Vol.1, No.1, March 2014, 2014
The paper presents real time speckle de-noising based on activity computation algorithm and wavelet transform. Speckles arise in an image when laser light is reflected from an illuminated surface. The process involves detection of speckles in an image by obtaining a number of frames of the same object under different illumination or angle and comparing

Speckle Statistics in Adaptively Corrected Images [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J.637:541-547,2006, 2005
(abridged) Imaging observations are generally affected by a fluctuating background of speckles, a particular problem when detecting faint stellar companions at small angular separations.

Polarimetric SAR Speckle Noise Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data are affected by speckle noise, originated by the SAR system's coherent nature. The problem of speckle noise in one-dimensional (1-D) data is already solved, as speckle has a multiplicative characteristic.

Strategies for reducing speckle noise in digital holography. [PDF]

open access: yesLight Sci Appl, 2018
AbstractDigital holography (DH) has emerged as one of the most effective coherent imaging technologies. The technological developments of digital sensors and optical elements have made DH the primary approach in several research fields, from quantitative phase imaging to optical metrology and 3D display technologies, to name a few.

Noise filtering in solar speckle masking reconstructions [PDF]

open access: bronzeAstronomy and Astrophysics Supplement Series, 1996
A new method of obtaining a sensitive noise filter for solar speckle masking reconstructions is presented below. This filter separates the true image information from noise most reliably. Its efficiency is demonstrated by some representative examples considering observed and artificial image data which were generated in a computer.
