Adaptive systems in speckle-pattern interferometry
Applied Optics, 2000The concept of adaptivity in television holography is discussed, and various realizations of adaptivity are presented. In one possible variation, functions of the components of the optical arrangement may be changed to adapt them to measurement conditions.

Information processing using speckle patterns
1975It was after the advent of the laser and its applications in holography that the attention of research workers was attracted by the speckle effect which is produced when a diffusing object is illuminated in coherent light. The very particular properties of speckle and notably its fineness have led to the development of new techniques.

Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry
SPIE Proceedings, 1987AbstractThe basic principles of electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) are described, stressing its close similarity to hologram interferometry. The technique's applications for vibration anddeformation testing within industrial and medical research are outlined. Future developments are discussed.

In the infrared, visible and ultraviolet region, there are three main kinds of sources : thermal sources which radiate at virtually all wavelengths (e.g. solid hot bodies and hot gases under high pressure), thermal sources giving line spectra (gase discharge tubes under low pressure), lasers.

First-order statistics of displayed speckle patterns in electronic speckle pattern interferometry
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1981The first-order probability density functions of displayed speckle patterns in electronic speckle pattern interferometry are calculated. We show that in specular-reference-beam setups the brightness in the displayed pattern is always (χ)2 distributed. For speckle-reference-beam setups the probability density depends on the effective resolution of the ...

Statistical Properties of Laser Speckle Patterns
1975Since speckle plays an important role in many physical phenomena, it is essential to fully understand its statistical properties. Starting from the basic idea of a random walk in the complex plane, we derive the first-order statistics of the complex amplitude, intensity and phase of speckle.
