Deconstructing adsorption variability: the prediction of spatial uncertainty in pollutant movement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Land pressures today and government policy-requires previously developed, 'brownfield' land to be brought back into beneficial use. The nature of these sites means that they may have been subject to some form of contamination from previous uses. The risk

Phase Engineering of Atomically Precise Nanoclusters (APNCs) of Gold and Beyond

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Engineering the structural phase of materials is of paramount importance for both fundamental research and practical applications. In this Review, we summarize the recent progress in controlling the phases of atomically precise nanoclusters (APNCs) of gold, silver and copper, as well as bimetallic systems. The phase‐enabled material properties of APNCs

Search for supersymmetry with compressed mass spectra using a vector boson fusion topology with the ATLAS detector [PDF]

open access: yes
Supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics are theoretically motivated by their ability to potentially address some of the biggest unresolved questions in physics. However thus far there has been no conclusive evidence to support

Hierarchical Cyclic Pursuit: Algebraic Curves Containing the Laplacian Spectra

open access: yes, 2022
The paper addresses the problem of multi-agent communication in networks with regular directed ring structure. These can be viewed as hierarchical extensions of the classical cyclic pursuit topology.

Advances in Magnesium‐Based Thermoelectrics: A Critical Review

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnesium‐based thermoelectric materials have emerged as promising candidates for low‐to‐mid‐temperature energy conversion due to their abundance, low cost, and competitive performance. This review summarizes recent advances in Mg3X2, MgAgSb, and Mg2X systems, covering transport mechanisms, fabrication strategies, stability challenges, and device ...

Engineering Strain‐Stiffening Granular Hydrogels for 3D‐Printed Tissue‐Mimicry

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printable strain‐stiffening double‐network granular hydrogel (SDGH) enables independent, region‐specific tuning of toe (EToe) and heel (EHeel) moduli through control of microgel packing and network composition. This platform replicates tissue‐like nonlinear mechanics and allows fabrication of high‐fidelity, multilayered aortic valves with ...

Extended defects in curved spacetimes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
This Thesis is concerned with three particular aspects of extended cosmic strings and domain walls in cosmology: their dynamics, gravitation and interaction with a black hole. In Chapter 3, we study the dynamics of an abelian-Higgs cosmic string. We find

Orbital‐Hybridizable Nanoseed Interphase Enables One‐Minute Rechargeable, Energy‐Dense Anode‐Free Aqueous Zinc Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An orbital‐hybridizable nanoseed (OHNS) interphase induces strong orbital hybridization between Zn and carbon edges, accelerating Zn nucleation while suppressing 2D surface diffusion. This interfacial electronic regulation drives uniform, dense, and (002)‐oriented Zn growth, enabling stable and fast charging behavior in anode‐free aqueous Zn batteries.
