Pentagonal 2D Altermagnets: Material Screening and Altermagnetic Tunneling Junction Device Application

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
From a database of 170 pentagonal 2D materials, 4 candidates exhibiting altermagnetic ordering are screened. Furthermore, the spin‐splitting and unconventional boundary states in the pentagonal 2D altermagnetic monolayer MnS2 are investigated. A MnS2‐based altermagnetic tunneling junction is designed and, through ab initio quantum transport simulations,

Liquid crystal based spectral control for applications in optical communication and metrology

open access: yesResults in Optics, 2020
The molecules of nematic liquid crystals (LCs), aligned in one average direction, constitute a birefringent medium. The molecules in nematic LCs of positive anisotropy (ne>no) get aligned in the direction of applied electric field due to the induced ...

Kinetic Insights into Precursor‐Assisted Soft Sphere Close Packing Revealed by In Situ GISAXS with Implications for Gas Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The versatile precursor‐assisted soft sphere close packing during slot‐die coating is investigated with in situ X‐ray scattering. The soft crystallization pathways towards a close packing involve multistep structural transitions such as surface nucleation, in‐plane, and out‐of‐plane crystallization.

Experimental Study of Few‐Layer Graphene: Optical Anisotropy and Pseudo‐Brewster Angle Shift in Vacuum Ultraviolet Spectral Range

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, 2021
The optical properties of mono‐ and trilayer graphene on SiO2/Si substrate are studied at hydrogen Lyman‐alpha (121.6 nm) spectral line for the first time. The optical anisotropy of graphene at this wavelength is experimentally demonstrated by retrieving

Femtosecond study of the effects of ions on the reorientation dynamics of water

open access: yes, 2012
We study the effects of ions on the reorientation dynamics of liquid water with polarization-resolved femtosecond mid-infared spectroscopy. We probe the anisotropy of the excitation of the O-D stretch vibration of HDO molecules in solutions of NaCl, NaI ...

Composition and Resulting Band Alignment at the TiO2/InP Heterointerface: A Fundamental Study Combining Photoemission Spectroscopy and Theory

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The chemical composition and band alignment are systematically investigated at the TiO2/InP heterointerface. Thin TiO2 films are deposited by ALD on atomically ordered, P‐terminated p‐InP(100). By combining UPS, XPS, and ab initio molecular dynamics, the atomistic structure and electronic alignment are revealed.

Spintronic magnetic anisotropy

open access: yes, 2013
An attractive feature of magnetic adatoms and molecules for nanoscale applications is their superparamagnetism, the preferred alignment of their spin along an easy axis preventing undesired spin reversal.

Z‐Scheme Water Splitting Systems Based on Solid‐State Electron Conductors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines the latest advances in Z‐scheme overall water splitting (OWS) systems for solar hydrogen production. These systems consist of suspended or immobilized hydrogen evolution photocatalysts (HEPs) and oxygen evolution photocatalysts (OEPs).
