A spectral collocation method for the Navier-Stokes equations [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Computational Physics, 1985
A Fourier-Chebyshev spectral method for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is described. It is applicable to a variety of problems including some with fluid properties which vary strongly both in the normal direction and in time. In this fully spectral algorithm, a preconditioned iterative technique is used for solving the implicit equations ...

Advanced control of non‐isothermal axial dispersion tubular reactors with recycle‐induced state delay

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract We develop a delay‐aware estimation and control framework for a non‐isothermal axial dispersion tubular reactor modelled as a coupled parabolic‐hyperbolic PDE system with recycle‐induced state delay. The infinite‐dimensional dynamics are preserved without spatial discretization by representing the delay as a transport PDE and adopting a late ...

Conformal Maps to Multiply-Slit Domains and Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
By exploiting conformal maps to vertically slit regions in the complex plane, a recently developed rational spectral method [Tee and Trefethen, 2006] is able to solve PDEs with interior layer-like behaviour using significantly fewer collocation points ...

Numerical approximations for population growth model by Rational Chebyshev and Hermite Functions collocation approach: A comparison

open access: yes, 2010
This paper aims to compare rational Chebyshev (RC) and Hermite functions (HF) collocation approach to solve the Volterra's model for population growth of a species within a closed system.

Self‐Similar Blowup for the Cubic Schrödinger Equation

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We give a rigorous proof for the existence of a finite‐energy, self‐similar solution to the focusing cubic Schrödinger equation in three spatial dimensions. The proof is computer‐assisted and relies on a fixed point argument that shows the existence of a solution in the vicinity of a numerically constructed approximation.

Tensor Network Space-Time Spectral Collocation Method for Time-Dependent Convection-Diffusion-Reaction Equations

open access: yesMathematics
Emerging tensor network techniques for solutions of partial differential equations (PDEs), known for their ability to break the curse of dimensionality, deliver new mathematical methods for ultra-fast numerical solutions of high-dimensional problems ...

An Efficient Collocation Method for a Class of Boundary Value Problems Arising in Mathematical Physics and Geometry

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
We present a numerical method for a class of boundary value problems on the unit interval which feature a type of power-law nonlinearity. In order to numerically solve this type of nonlinear boundary value problems, we construct a kind of spectral ...

Numerical Evolution of axisymmetric vacuum spacetimes: a code based on the Galerkin method

open access: yes, 2011
We present the first numerical code based on the Galerkin and Collocation methods to integrate the field equations of the Bondi problem. The Galerkin method like all spectral methods provide high accuracy with moderate computational effort.
