Unbounded Transference and Spectral Decompositions

Mathematical Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy, 2013
Summary: Let \(U\) be an invertible operator on a Banach space \(X\). Estimates on the norm of trigonometric polynomials in \(U\) can sometimes be used to describe the structure of \(U\) in terms of its spectrum. We give a general transference principle that can, in suitable circumstances, be used to obtain such estimates and thereby a spectral ...

Parametric decomposition of the spectral envelope

2013 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2013
In this paper we propose a novel representation of the spectral envelope of speech, using sums of general parametric basis functions (filter bank), including Gaussian, Hann and Nutall. The central frequency and bandwidth of each filter can be adjusted independently for each speech frame as in conventional filter bank analysis.

Spectral decomposition of phosphorescence decays

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2013
In phosphor thermometry, the fitting of decay curves is a key task in the robust and precise determination of temperatures. These decays are generally assumed to be mono-exponential in certain temporal boundaries, where fitting is performed. The present study suggests a multi-exponential method to determine the spectral distribution in terms of decay ...

Spectral Decomposition of the Elasticity Tensor

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1992
The elasticity tensor in anisotropic elasticity can be regarded as a symmetric linear transformation on the nine-dimensional space of second-order tensors. This allows the elasticity tensor to be expressed in terms of its spectral decomposition. The structures of the spectral decompositions are determined by the sets of invariant subspaces that are ...

Spectral Decomposition of the AR Metric

2013
This work investigates a spectral decomposition of the AR metric proposed as a measure of structural dissimilarity among ARIMA processes. Specifically, the metric will be related to the variance of a stationary process so that its behaviour in the frequency domain will help to detect how unobserved components generated by the parameters of both ...

Full Spectral Decomposition of Ring Currents

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2006
Within the ipsocentric method for calculation of molecular magnetic response, projection of perturbed orbitals onto the virtual orbital space allows partition of induced current density into contributions from individual virtual excitations between occupied and unoccupied orbitals, enabling detailed assignment of the origin of currents in, e.g ...

Breeding spectral decompositions

European Journal of Physics, 1995
A self-adapting algorithm has been designed and applied to the decomposition of non-smooth spectra. The algorithm is efficient, stable, and capable of analysing any shape in terms of a library of basis functions. The algorithm learns which components are most likely to be present, and in what relative proportion, without being directed by the user ...
