Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Mapping Natural Populus euphratica Forests in the Mainstream of the Tarim River Using Spaceborne Imagery and Google Earth Engine

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Populus euphratica is a unique constructive tree species within riparian desert areas that is essential for maintaining oasis ecosystem stability. The Tarim River Basin contains the most densely distributed population of P.

Developing a New Method to Identify Flowering Dynamics of Rapeseed Using Landsat 8 and Sentinel-1/2

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Identifying the rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) flowering dates are important for planting area estimation, growth monitoring, and yield estimation. However, there is currently a lack of data on rapeseed flowering dates at the parcel scale. In this study, a

Hybrid document indexing with spectral embedding [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Language Technologies 2007: The Conference of the North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics; Companion Volume, Short Papers on XX - NAACL '07, 2007
Document representation has a large impact on the performance of document retrieval and clustering algorithms. We propose a hybrid document indexing scheme that combines the traditional bag-of-words representation with spectral embedding. This method accounts for the specifics of the document collection and also uses semantic similarity information ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Evaluation of Spectral Indices and Global Thresholding Methods for the Automatic Extraction of Built-Up Areas: An Application to a Semi-Arid Climate Using Landsat 8 Imagery

open access: yesUrban Science
The rapid expansion of built-up areas (BUAs) requires effective spatial and temporal monitoring, being a crucial practice for urban land use planning, resource allocation, and environmental studies, and spectral indices (SIs) can provide efficiency and ...

Retreat of Greenwich, Livingston, Robert and Snow Islands glaciers, Antarctica, between 1956 and 2023 [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
Glaciers are sensitive to environmental climatic conditions and show their variability over time. This study investigates the environmental characteristics and variation in glacial cover of the Greenwich, Livingston, Robert and Snow islands, Antarctica ...

Land cover classification using multi-temporal MERIS vegetation indices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The spectral, spatial, and temporal resolutions of Envisat's Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) data are attractive for regional- to global-scale land cover mapping.
