Engineered Interfacial Control for Suppression of Phase Instability: Operando Visualization from Device to Module Scale

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Operando real‐time current density–voltage absorption spectroscopy visualizes spatial phase evolution in mixed‐halide perovskites from device to module scale. Phase instability preferentially initiates in regions with insufficient carrier extraction, revealing electrical boundary conditions as governing factors.

Impact of spectral nudging and domain size in studies of RCM response to parameter modification [PDF]

open access: yesClimate Dynamics, 2011
The paper aims at finding an RCM configuration that facilitates studies devoted to quantifying RCM response to parameter modification. When using short integration times, the response of the time-averaged variables to RCM modification tend to be blurred by the noise originating in the lack of predictability of the instantaneous atmospheric states.

Electride‐Induced Electronic Modulation of Ruthenium Catalyst for Highly Efficient Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrides offer unique opportunities as catalyst supports for hydrogen evolution reactions. This study presents an electride‐supported Ru/Nd2ScSi2 catalyst exhibiting outstanding hydrogen evolution reaction performance and excellent stability. Anionic Ru species on the electride surface facilitate water dissociation and optimize hydrogen adsorption ...

Diffusion Characteristics of Ru and Oxygen Vacancies in Ta2O5 for Resistive Random Access Memory Devices: A Density Functional Theory Investigation

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic analysis of ruthenium (Ru) and oxygen vacancy (OV) diffusion in Ta₂O₅‐based memristors is performed. DFT calculations demonstrate interstitial Ru in Ta₂O₅ has lower diffusion barriers and formation energies than OVs, enhancing mobility and stability.

Medicanes in an ocean–atmosphere coupled regional climate model [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2014
So-called medicanes (Mediterranean hurricanes) are meso-scale, marine, and warm-core Mediterranean cyclones that exhibit some similarities to tropical cyclones.

Continuous data assimilation with blurred-in-time measurements of the surface quasi-geostrophic equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
An intrinsic property of almost any physical measuring device is that it makes observations which are slightly blurred in time. We consider a nudging-based approach for data assimilation that constructs an approximate solution based on a feedback control

Evaluation of moisture sources for the Central European summer flood of May/June 2013 based on regional climate model simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Heavy precipitation affected Central Europe in May/June 2013, triggering damaging floods both on the Danube and the Elbe rivers. Based on a modelling approach with COSMO-CLM, moisture fluxes, backward trajectories, cyclone tracks and precipitation fields

From Materials to Systems: Challenges and Solutions for Fast‐Charge/Discharge Na‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically analyzes the key characteristics limiting the fast‐charge/discharge capability of Na‐ion batteries (SIBs) from a multi‐scale perspective encompassing electrode materials, the electrode‐electrolyte interface, and the system. Furthermore, it presents practical solution strategies for the fundamental issues arising at each scale,

Breaking the Durability–Power Trade‐Off: Boron‐Directed Faceted O3 Cathodes for High‐Rate Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Boron‐oxide‐assisted particle engineering stabilizes O3‐type layered cathodes for sodium‐ion batteries by mitigating phase transitions and lattice strain. Acting as flux and structural modifier, boron forms submicron hexagonal platelets with (003) facets and expanded Na‐layer spacing, enabling rapid Na⁺ diffusion and mechanical resilience.
