The underappreciated roles of fog and dew on vegetation and biocrusts

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 1, Page 46-63, July 2026.
Summary Fog and dew represent minor components of ecosystem water budgets in most ecosystems. However, fog and dew can play an essential role in ecosystem dynamics and are particularly important for water‐limited systems. In addition to serving as direct water inputs, fog and dew can influence microclimate and water redistribution, thereby promoting ...

Controlling Nanoscale Heat With Optically Coupled Plasmonic Systems

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 12, 25 June 2026.
Optical coupling in plasmonic nanostructures is shown to enable precise spatiotemporal control of nanoscale heat. By engineering near‐field interactions in dimers, trimers, and switchable clusters, thermal energy is asymmetrically distributed, focused into sub‐diffraction volumes, or turned on/off via structural reconfiguration. These design principles

The Anatomy of Convection Under Lake Ice: Reynolds Stresses and Convective Energy Budget From In Situ Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract We present the first in situ observations of the full turbulence tensor of free convection under lake ice, obtained using an original method based on a set of two synchronized acoustic Doppler profilers to measure all six turbulent stress components.

Pure Water‐Fed Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting Using a Porous WO3 Electrode Surface‐Modified With Perfluorosulfonic Acid Ionomer

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
This study demonstrates a proton exchange membrane (PEM)‐based photoelectrochemical (PEC) system for pure‐water splitting using a porous tungsten oxide (WO3) photoanode coated with a perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomer. Proton transport at the WO3 surface is the rate‐limiting step for oxygen evolution, and the ionomer surface modification is ...

One Year of Outdoor Performance of Perovskite/Perovskite/Silicon Triple‐Junction Solar Cell

open access: yesSolar RRL, Volume 10, Issue 11, 15 June 2026.
We present a full‐year outdoor results of the first triple‐junction perovskite/perovskite/silicon solar cells. The seasonal variation is mostly caused by poor low light performance, which is suppressed in the picture by focusing on data obtained at 500 W/m2.
